July 2 10:59 am
Temp is 77. It is sunny and windy. It is nice to hear the birds singing outside. We had a robin make a nest in our tree and she had 4 eggs in there. They are all hatched and flying around. Then we also have a flicker that made a nest in a dead tree out front. It made a round hole like a woodpecker hole. It has babies in here, and do they ever make the noise when she comes to feed them. Then after she flies away, one of them makes a weird noise. I suppose they will be flying away soon too. We have been eating radishes and lettuce from the garden. So all and all I would say it is a beautiful day in Michigan's wild blueberry capital..............
June 27 1:47 pm
Temp is 74. PARADISE IS THE WILD BLUEBERRY CAPITAL OF MICHIGAN, the House of Representatives recently adopted a resolution naming Paradise as the wild blueberry capital of Michigan. Since I didn't get to go picking much last year, I am anxiously awaiting for this year. :) Also a reminder that the wild blueberry festival is August 15, 16, 17 this year.
June 22 7:20 am
Temp is 51. HAPPY BIRTHDAY CHET!!!!!!!!! Hope you have a nice fun filled day.........
June 19 2:16 PM
Temp is 64. Me again, twice in one day, can ya believe it?? Just had a thought, we ordered some raspberry plants from Gurneys, and they didn't send very good ones. Planted them, and about five or six have died already. They were nasty when we unpacked them. Yes, they are the same company we ordered the grapes from. Anyway if anyone has any raspberry plants they are thinning out, we'd be happy to take them off your hands. Just let me know before hand, and maybe we can trade a room for them or something. :)
June 19 7:50 am
Temp is 50 and it is raining, again!!!!!!!!!! We have had a lot of rain this year, which is ok I guess, better than the dry summer we had last year. It has been windy and cold also. The furnace is still running each night and day. Can't believe we are heading toward the 4th of July and still paying for propane........Not much going on around here. Let me tell you that we still have plenty of mosquitoes too. Remember a couple years ago when some very nice people brought me a couple peony plants? Well I think I see a couple buds on one of them this year. How exciting. The garden is all in, and growing nicely I might add. (thanks to husband that does all the work). We had a big wind a week ago and a tree fell on our son's boat. So he is dealing with the insurance company. By the way, the canned rhubarb turned out really good..............
June 4 9:21
Temp is 59. How is everyone doing these days? We have lots and lots of BUGS here. Mosquitoes and blackflies!!!! They are awful today, but it is cloudy. We did manage to get two rows of tomatoes planted yesterday afternoon. I planted flowers in the pots yesterday. The hummers are feeding all the time. I am going to try and keep track of how much nectar they eat this year, I bet I will be surprised come fall. Picked rhubarb yesterday, so I have that to take care of in the next couple days. Strawberry-rhubarb pie, and I am going to try canning some this year for the better half. He loves it, and says it is good on ice cream too.........
May 28 7:12 am
Temp is 33. We had frost last night, I'm glad we know what to expect frost wise. That is why we never plant the garden and flowers until later on. Cut the grass for the first time yesterday, and the black flies are out. Not really too bad though, YET!!! The hummingbirds are busy at the feeder until way late at night, when it is almost dark.
May 24 7:58 am
Temp is 44. The sun is out and it looks like the wind has stopped. It is looking like it will be a nice day. Went to the community yard sales yesterday. Didn't find much that I couldn't live without. I did get a nice puzzle for next winter though. Guess I will try and get some more weeds and grass dug out of my flowers today, so I can plant some flower seeds. I might try just planting seeds this year instead of buying flats of flowers for there, (save my money for gas)...................
May 21 8:25 am
Temp is 40. Cold, rain and wind with maybe a few flakes is the weather of the day. It has been cold here for forever....The wind has been strong each day and yesterday afternoon it was snowing. Our furnace is still running each night. When will it ever end. Tv guy says it is suppose to warm up this weekend, so I will probably be on here next week complaining that it is too hot!!! Remember those grapes? When we finally opened the package there was only one grape plant in it. There should have been four. I called and we both decided that it would just be best to cancel the order for a refund, so that is what I did.
May 15 7:37 am
Temp is 36. It froze last night. The first hummingbird of the season showed up yesterday at the window feeder. I am so glad. I love to watch them. Well I am off to the dentist this morning, and need to be there at 9, so I better get going. Not my favorite place to go...........
May 14 9:07
Temp is 43 with rain. We had thunder and lightening last night with lots of rain. It is still raining this morning, so it must have rained all night. We needed the rain, and the grass is getting all nice and green. I guess we got all the raking done just in time for the rain. Don't know what today will bring, probably do laundry, even though I will have to use the dryer. I usually hang the clothes out to dry.
May 11 8:14 am
HAPPY MOTHERS DAY!!!!!!!! Looks cloudy and dreary out today.
May 6 8:03 AM
Temp is 41. The sun is out and it looks like it is going to be a beautiful day today. It has been windy for forever, and the wind is so cold. It would be nice to have a sunny day with no wind for a change. A day when you didn't have to wear a jacket outside. Nothing much going on here. Chet has been finding a few mushrooms in the Petoskey area..........
April 29 7:21 am
Temp is 27. It's cold out there with a nice white frost. Still patches and piles of snow and there are still roads you can not travel. It has been cold and windy for the past three or four days. Looks like the wind has stopped this morning. That would be nice. Remember the socks that I am trying to knit? Well I am down to starting the heel flap on it. Thanks to Vicki at Village Fabric and Crafts yesterday, that got me back on the right track. :) Once I knit a pair then I will know what to do where. I hope!! Nothing much going on around town, other than people out cleaning up after the winter.
April 21 11:22 am
Temp is 54. A beautiful day in Paradise. A nice day to watch the snow melt away..... The only thing bad about that is the yukie stuff under the snow that has to be raked up, and tons of rocks from the side of the road that the plow threw up into the yard all winter. This year is especially bad because when they redone the road last year and put all the new stones along side of it. Now a lot of those new stones are in everyone's yards. Our guests that were here last weekend were smelt fishing. They caught one smelt on Saturday night, then they had to leave Sunday morning. They said there were a few people at the creek that caught 3 or so. It was warm again yesterday and is much warmer again today, so I suspect they will run soon, maybe even tonight.
April 16 10:15 am
Temp 50. It is a nice warm but windy day. Snow seems to be going down some each day. Someone called yesterday and wanted to know if the groomers were still out. He also wanted to know if we had any snow coming, and I said "hopefully not until next fall"...............
April 11 10:39 am
Temp is 34. No you are NOT seeing things, it is SNOWING like crazy here. Our power was out from 4:30 this morning until about 8:30. I guess there was a lot of freezing rain south of town, and it snapped a couple tree tops on the lines. I suspect there is a good chance of losing it again before it is all over with. This snow looks to be quite heavy. Since I am not having very good luck with the socks that I am trying to learn to knit (ripped them out again last night for the 3rd time) I guess this afternoon will be the perfect time to try again. :) Thank you to John T for the camera donation. Hope to see you again next hunting season.
April 10 2:10 pm
Temp is 46, but it is cold. The wind is very cold. We have a winter storm watch for late tonight through Saturday afternoon. In excess of 8 inches possible north of M 28 with 35 mph winds. Just wonderful is all I have to say about it. From Luce county west they have a storm warning, so I guess we are better off than some. It was 28 this morning at 8 am. I had to scrape the ice off the blazer windows. Enough is enough, I don't want to have to pay for propane in May to keep warm.............
April 8 9:24 am
Temp is 35. I am glad I don't live in Marquette or the surrounding area (Ishpeming haha)!! My daughter will know what I am talking about. So, here's the story. Where she lives they got 36 inches of heavy wet snow last week during the storm. They were actually snowed in. They had to use the plow truck to plow about 3 feet, then it was stuck, so they had to pull it back, and go another 3 feet or so. Had to keep doing this for the whole drive, which is quite long. Well anyway, they have 9 to 11 inches suppose to hit there again. She said last week when she opened her door in the morning, snow fell into the house. She did send us pictures............... It was spring break for Chet in Petoskey, so him and his girlfriend decided to go to Marquette for a few days. Right into a blizzard!!!! There must be something about snow and this family. We must be connected in some way or another to piles of the white stuff!!!!!!!!
April 4 8:19 am
Temp is 27. The sun is out and it looks like it is going to be another nice day. Hello to Bill and Karen in Florida. I went over to the Soo yesterday to pick up the medications for the month, and gas was $3.38 a gallon over there. I worked on starting the "socks" the other afternoon, and I am sorry to say, I haven't "got" it yet!! :) But I will keep trying. Since I didn't try yesterday, maybe today will be the day. Starting to get spring fever, and wanting to do outdoor things, but there is not much you can do when snow is piled up all over the place.............. (wish I could go pick blueberries this afternoon) :)
April 1 10:20 am
Temp is 70 and it is a beautiful sunny day! APRIL FOOL!!!!!!!!!!!!
Temp is 28 and it is snowing and blowing. Husband is out plowing now. Yesterday late afternoon it rained, then turned to snow. Wet heavy stuff. "Trusty" tells me we got 5 to 6 inches last night. We are under a snow and blowing snow advisory until 5 pm, with winds gusting to 40 to 50 mph, with an additional one to four inches for today. Yesterday we had snow sliding off the roof all day. Now when you look out the bathroom windows you see snow!! I am going to try and teach myself how to knit socks. (this should be an experience) So I may have to brave the weather and head up to the craft store and pick up some yarn. A good way to spend a snowy April first.............
March 31 1:54 pm
Temp is 48. We have a winter storm warning from 5 pm this afternoon until 5 pm tomorrow afternoon. Five to ten inches of snow with wind.
March 24 6:37 pm
Temp is 33. We have a winter weather advisory from 5 am until 2 pm tomorrow. Three to six inches of snow with gusty winds. I swear we will still have snow here on the 4th of July. We won't see the snow melt on our garden anytime soon. Won't be planting those grapes anytime soon either! :)
March 23 8:09 am
Temp is 15. Happy Easter to all. Not much happening around here to comment on. Yesterday the wind was so very cold. Haven't been outside yet this morning, but there are a few snow flakes falling. All our guests are leaving this morning, so I have some work to do.
March 21 9:59 pm
Temp is 14. It was 2 this morning at 7:30 am. It is still cold up here and quite a few snowmobilers in town tonight. I didn't get back here the other day, but it stopped snowing about 1 pm, then snowed a little more later. We probably ended up with 4 inches. Some one called this morning and wanted to know if we had snow yet. I said yes about 3 to 3 1/2 feet. They said is that in the woods? I said it is everywhere!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Last summer we ordered some grapes. Some concord and some other ones, I can't think of the name right now. Well the concords came, but the other ones never arrived. So the company said they never had anymore and they would send them in the spring. Well Wednesday I get an e-mail from them saying your grapes were shipped today. YIKES!!!! Three feet of snow on the ground yet. So yesterday they arrived. I told my husband, "there's your grapes, go plant them." We had a good laugh anyway. I e-mailed the company and asked them what I was suppose to do with them now? They don't usually ship until it is time to plant in your zone. Needless to say I never got an answer from them ...............
March 18 12:23 pm
Temp is 33. I just had to get on here and tell you it is snowing like it hasn't snowed before. Got about 3 inches, and it is still coming down. I'll try and get back on later and tell you how long it lasted..............
March 17 9:25 am
Temp is 19. It was 0 this morning at 6 am. Tv guy says we have 2 to 5 inches of snow coming late tonight into tomorrow. We still have lots of snow and trails are very good, as reported by our guests. A gentleman told me that they rode 28 miles Saturday morning before they saw another sled. They went to Grand Marias, and said trails were perfect. HAPPY ST. PATRICK'S DAY!!!!!!!!!!!
March 16 5:10 pm
Temp is 33. It was a chilly 7 this morning at 7:30 am. Snowmobilers are all reporting beautiful trails with light traffic. We still have LOTS of snow. So make your plans to come up for an Easter ride. The camera seems to be very dark today. Don't know what got in to it, but I'll see what we can do about brightening it up here a little later, when Ralph comes home. Hey Lucky Randy, where ya been? Haven't heard from you for awhile? Have you been up snowmobiling this winter??
March 10 8:24 am
Temp is -13. Another cold morning. It looks like the sun will be out today. This cold is getting ridiculous. No one likes it, except the propane guy!!!!!!!! I wonder what summer will be like? Hopefully it is not as hot and dry as the past couple of summers. What do you think of the time change? It is definitely hard for me to get used to this year.
March 8 6:16 pm
Temp is 15. When I got up this morning at 7:30 it was -10. The sun was out today, but it was cold. Thanks to Chet for getting me back in the comments business!!
March 3 1:19 pm
Temp is 34. It rained some during the night. I think it was more of a drizzle, then turned to snow. It snowed hard, then stopped, now it is snowing again. It is windy and very cold. I just love these people who have a room rented for the weekend, go riding all day Saturday , come back, load up and come in the office and say, we're leaving now, do we get our money back for tonight?? This is anywhere between 5:30 pm to 9:30 pm. I say Hell no, it is kinda late for that. The room has to be cleaned before it can be rented again, and that don't take place until morning. "But we didn't use anything in there today" duh...... Don't they understand that the bathroom has to be disinfected and the beds changed???? Until you've owned a motel, you can't imagine what people say and do!!!! I wonder if these same people go to a restaurant, order a meal, eat until they are full, then ask if they can have some of their money back, because they didn't eat all the food?? It just makes me wonder when people buy a carton of cigarettes, or a case of beer, no problem, but just hate to pay for a room. Well now that you have read my complaints for the day....................
February 29 2:50 pm
Temp is 32. It is snowing and a little windy. Thanks to Paul and Joyce for the donation. Hope you had a good time on the snowshoes. We'll see you next trip.
February 28 7:57
Temp is -4. It is cold again. Looks like the sun will be out today. Tv guys say we have snow headed this way for tonight and tomorrow. Still lots of great riding out there, and more than enough snow. So this is the time to get in those last few weekends that we have left.
February 27 8:26 am
Temp is 4. It is cold. No new snow to speak of in the last few days. A skiff yesterday morning.
February 24 8:00 am
Temp is 7. HAPPY BIRTHDAY to our daughter KENA!!!!! I won't tell everyone how old you are today, except that I am 20 years older than you, and I am #&!!!! It was a nice sunny day yesterday, with lots of sleds in town. I wonder if they all came to enjoy the Mardi Gras? They had a nice weekend for it. Thank you to Mike from Virginia for the camera donation. Nice seeing you again, and I hope you had a fun filled safe weekend in Paradise. Enjoy the rest of your vacation. The first afternoon that Mike and the Mrs. went for a ride, someone came around a curve on the wrong side of the trail and Mike had to jump out of his way. He was shook up for awhile after that. So please people stay on your side of the trail, and slow down. Remember that there are actually some people out there enjoying the scenery..............
February 21 2:51 pm
Temp is 33. A beautiful sunny day. Lots of people should be in town this weekend. Please stay on the trail. Speed limit is 15mph on the town trail. Stay off M-123. I understand this will be enforced and tickets will be given. If you ride on the road and get a ticket, don't complain. It is the law!!! Hope everyone has a fun filled and safe weekend.
February 20 9:03 am
Temp is 5. Not snowing for a change. People are reporting that the trails are the best they have ever been. We do have plenty of snow I can tell you that. Thanks to Ed for the donation to help keep this site going. Hope you made it back safely. Donations do help us a lot and we do appreciate each and every one of them. I took some pictures yesterday, and maybe some of them will show up on the message board one of these days. Check out the pile of snow at the credit union behind their sign. This is where they blow the snow when they clean the drive, but still, I think it is pretty impressive. I didn't get any good pictures of it yesterday, but I might try again today.
February 17 11:51 am
Temp is 27. It is snowing and snowing and snowing some more. You will probably see a lot of snow on the pick up that is parked in the camera image. I was outside doing a little shoveling and there seems to be a lot of people on the town trail, and also a few dummies on the road. People, that is why we have the trail, please use it......... I was just thinking, I know that Chet is a juggler, but he is not a magician, but it seems like ever since he put "let it snow" on the top of the camera image, it has been snowing a lot. Now if he could just figure out how to pull money out of a hat..............
February 16 5:30 pm
Temp is 27. Another weekend and another WINTER STORM WARNING from Sunday 10 am until Monday 7 am. Strong winds possible with 8 to 10 inches of snow. We have enough snow for awhile. Running out of places to put it.
February 11 8:22 am
Temp is 6. Looks like the blizzard is over. Boy it was quite a day yesterday. It is snowing lightly, but there is no wind. Can't tell how much snow we got, because of the wind. But I know we will be shoveling and plowing again today.............
February 10 8:07 am
Temp is 5. Cold, snow, wind and blowing snow!!! We do have blizzard conditions here now. Some of our guests decided to leave late yesterday afternoon after their ride. That was a very smart move on their part, as they wanted to avoid the storm.
February 9 8:03 am
Temp is 27. Well here we go again folks, the national weather service has issued a BLIZZARD warning from 10 pm until 1am on Monday. Up to seven inches of snow with wind gusts of 40 to 50 miles per hour. So not that much snow is expected, but it is the wind that will be blowing it all around. It snowed a little last night, and it is snowing now. It looks like heavy stuff.
February 8 7:01 am
Temp is 2. We have a winter storm watch for Saturday evening until Sunday evening, with possible blizzard conditions at times. Another interesting weekend I guess. Thank you to ERICPOL 700 for the camera donation.
February 6 8:07 am
Temp is 12. Not much going on. We did have probably about 4 inches of snow Monday night.
February 3 5:40 pm
Temp is 31. Not much going on around here since the blizzard. Had a few rooms rented this weekend. And I mean a FEW. Thank you to MATT and MARK for the donation for the camera. It sure comes in handy this year, with keeping this site going. Hope you guys had a good time and a safe trip home.
January 31 8:11
Temp is 4. Well we got the drive all plowed and the sidewalk all cleared off, so we are ready for more snow. We actually have plenty now for awhile. Yesterday was a dandy blizzard. It may be strange, but I like the snow storms and blizzards, as long as our power doesn't go out. I see Chet worked his magic, and the camera image now updates every 5 to 10 seconds and you don't have to keep refreshing. :) Thanks Chet..........
January 30 10:36 am
Temp is 11. Chippewa county is in a civil emergency state until noon today. The office of emergency management in the Soo issued the following. Due to whiteout and blizzard conditions throughout Chippewa county...The Michigan state police and Michigan department of transportation advise everyone to stay off area roadways until further notice. It was valid through noon. One of the lines of power coming into town was out this morning. Thankfully it wasn't the line we are on. Couldn't measure the snowfall this morning, because of the wind blowing it all over. I know there was a big drift on the entire sidewalk. Lots of snow, then where the wind blew it, there wasn't much. The truck in the camera picture this morning didn't have hardly any snow on it, that is because it all blew off. But it was/is a blizzard out there. I can't even see the credit union across the street right now. A good day to do the laundry and bake some bread.............
January 29 2:54 pm
Temp is 37. We never had any rain here, so that is a good thing. With the temp above freezing, the snow has settled some. We are in a BLIZZARD warning from 8pm until 5pm tomorrow. Up to 9 inches or more of snow, with up to 50 mile per hour winds. Well I survived the trip to the dentist!! I was thankful they had an opening for this morning. So I had my tooth fixed and was back home by 11 or so. :) I was so glad I could get it done before the storm hits............
January 28 9:38 am
Temp is 29. Good morning everyone. Hi to Frank in West Liberty, keep checking here for the weather conditions. :) Maybe we will have some fresh snow for you. Trying to get a call into the dentist this morning. He must be busy, as the phone is always busy. Had a piece break off a tooth that has lots of filling in it, and hopefully I can get in to get something done with it before it starts to hurt. :( Right now it is fine, but I really don't want to be chewing on that side, for now.
January 27 4:18 pm
Temp is 30. Just a dusting of snow last night. It looks like our next snow will be Tuesday evening. We do have plenty on the ground right now.
January 24 11:47 am
Temp is 24. About 5 more inches of snow last night. Happy birthday today to our grand daughter JESSICA. She is 12 today. I see a couple people out in front of the camera getting their picture taken..........
January 23 10:49 am
Temp is 14. A heat wave!! "Trusty" tells me we had about 6 inches of fresh snow last night. We have some more coming for tonight.
January 22 7:04 pm
Temp is 9. No snow today, and the sun was actually out, and the sky was blue. It was cold out though. I think it is suppose to snow some tonight.
January 21 8:40 am
Temp is 1. I don't think it snowed much more after I reported the 3 inches last night, but it is COLD, that is for sure.
January 20 9:06 pm
Temp is 7. We had 5 inches of new snow this morning. Since we plowed, we have another 3 inches on the ground. We still have lake effect snow warnings. So that is about 24 inches so far since Thursday! Now that is some serious snow........
January 19 10:55 am
Temp is 12. I just got in from shoveling. Trusty was happy to go outside this morning again, and there was 9 inches of fresh snow on he ground since we plowed yesterday and it is still coming down. I took a bunch of pictures and if I ever figure how, I will post some on the message board. (but don't hold your breath). Maybe I can e-mail them to Chet and have him do it when he has time. I parked my blazer Thursday and never brushed it off at all yesterday, and boy did I have a pile of snow on when I went to brush it off now. Anyone that isn't here this weekend is missing some good riding on fresh fluffy snow.
January 18 4:56 pm
Temp is 19. It snows so hard you can hardly see across the road, then it clears up and when you look out again it is snowing hard again. The groomer just went by on the town trail.
January 18 9:45 am
Temp is 19. Seven inches of new snow on the ground this morning. We have a snow advisory until 10 am this morning. A lake effect snow warning from 7pm to 7am on Sunday. Tonight through Saturday one foot is expected near Paradise and Whitefish Point, with gusty NW winds. So I guess you could say that winter has arrived. How many of you saw our dog "maggie" doing her thing this morning. Well I guess when ya gotta go, you gotta go!!! Going to shovel, if anything exciting happens I will be back on later................
January 17 8:10 am
Temp is 31. It snowed a little last night. Maybe an inch??? We have snow advisories until 7 am Friday morning, with 4 to 7 inches expected. Lots of rooms available for the weekend. Lots of snow, cold weather and smooth trails........ What are you waiting for????????
January 15 3:43 pm
Temp is 24. No new snow since yesterday, but it remains cold. The town trail looks pretty smooth................
January 14 10:17 pm
Temp is 19. I measured 6 inches of snow in the parking lot this morning. That includes the inch or two from the 13th, cause we never plowed yesterday. It was cold all day, so it should help to freeze up all the water holes. The groomers are out, so make plans to come up and ride...............
January 13 10:09 am
Temp is 26. An inch or two of fresh snow. The wind is blowing some.
January 12 5:01 pm
Temp is 24. The national weather service has issued a snow advisory from 7pm until 7pm Sunday night. I saw a groomer go by here last night on the town trail, so they ARE grooming. That is ice that you see in the parking lot under the snow, not bare ground. It looks very quiet and still out now. Could this be the quiet before the storm??? :)
January 11 4:58 pm
Temp is 26. I just read on the Paradise Nightriders trail report that the groomers are out.
January 11 9:40 am
Temp is 26. Cold, windy and SNOWING!!!!! "Trusty" (my measuring stick) tells me that we have 7 inches of new fresh snow on the ground this morning, with a 9 inch drift on the sidewalk. And notice I am not complaining that I have to shovel. :) Hopefully this will bring some business to us, and save the winter. Also I want to say Hi to DALLAS down in sunny Florida. I just got off the phone with him and he is about to turn on his ac...................
January 9 4:20 pm
Temp is 30. Well it finally quit raining last night, and turned cold. Now the parking lot is like an ice rink again. The power was off this morning for a couple hours. It was very windy and as a matter of fact it is still windy. Haven't been on here much, as there was no change in the weather. If we get any snow, I will be on here right away to let you know. THINK SNOW!!!!!
January 6 1:25 pm
Temp is 38. I don't believe we have had any rain, it is just warm and foggy. It feels cold outside, I guess that is because of the dampness. We have a dense fog advisory until 5 pm, at least that is what I read earlier today. Hopefully when it gets cold later in the week, it snows on Paradise and the eastern up. It is getting pretty nasty up here for us people who are trying to keep going................
January 4 5:51 pm
Temp is 27. Just a ho-hum, dreary day today. Chris, one of the groomer drivers reported on Biskits message board that the trail to the falls is very good and flat. Also the trail to Pine Stump is good. Hopefully the rain will miss Paradise and we can keep our snow and have lots of customers with in in the next few weeks. :) We do have the Blessing Of The Sleds coming up on January 26th in down town Paradise.
January 3 8:34 am
Temp is 8. It is cold out this morning folks. It snowed about 4 inches yesterday. We have a wind advisory starting at 1 pm today, until 1 in the am. We could have gusts up to 45 mph. So I suppose we will lose our electricity, we usually do. Paradise is like a ghost town. There were a few sleds going by on the town trail yesterday. There is just no one around. Went past the bar last night at about 7pm and there were 4 sleds out front. No business is hard on everyone, because when there is no business, the locals don't have any work either.
January 2 11:10 am
Temp is 22. It was 0 this morning when I got up. So that should help the water holes to freeze up. It is snowing hard out right at the moment. Groomers are out, at least I saw one yesterday on the town trail. With so little traffic, I would think the riding would be pretty good now. A thank you is in order to SWAT 2001 and the Mrs. for the donation to the web cam. Thank you very much. It was nice meeting you and talking for a bit. I have been keeping up with you on the message board. A very interesting job you have there..............
January 1 9:09 am
Temp is 24. HAPPY NEW YEAR to everyone. Not much to comment on these days.
December 29 8:41 am
Temp is 26. We have about 6 inches of fresh snow on the ground. Our guests are headed out to the falls. They rode to Raco, Brimley and Strongs yesterday and said the trails were very good and groomed. Not to many people around, so this is a good time to get up here snowmobiling. We have rooms available, so give me a call.
December 26 5:16 pm
Temp is 34. Well as you can see, I'm back!! Even though there isn't much to comment on. No new snow, and the parking lot is like an ice rink, thanks to the rain the other day. Which means that Paradise is a pretty quiet town again this Christmas week. Tv guys say maybe a couple inches of that beautiful white stuff will be falling from the sky tonight. Joe, how's Ralphie doing?
December 26 3pm
Chet here... Trying to figure out why mom can't update the comments all of a sudden. I think I figured it out, but it looks like we had to sacrifice the page counter below... Oh well...
December 14 10:07 am
Temp is 18. Let it snow Let it snow Let it snow!!!!! Trusty tells me there is about 5 inches of new snow on the ground. I measured in 3 places. One was 4, one was 5, and the place where I had to shovel was 6, (of course). So since it was windy last night I will say 5. So all we need now is some snowmobilers, and I will be one happy person. This weekend would be a good time to get a ride in before the Christmas rush, hopefully it will be a rush, and have nice fresh snow. If anyone of you read the message board, then you know that "Ralphie the wonder dog" is sick. Joe, be sure and keep me posted! Please feel free to go to the message board and give Joe some encouraging thoughts. I am sure he is having a rough time with this since Ralphie is his best friend!!
December 10 5:11 pm
Temp is 19. A couple guests in the motel rode 300 miles on Saturday and had a good time. Hasn't snowed now for a couple days, but sounds like some is on it's way the middle of the week.
December 6 4:35 pm
Temp is 19. No new snow today, but it did snow a couple inches yesterday morning. We have been busy processing the deer we got this season. We eat lots of deer meat through the year. We would rather have that, than beef. We still have rooms available for Christmas week, so give me a call.............
December 4 6:21 am
Temp is 21. Yesterday morning when I went out with "trusty" I measured 6 1/2 inches of new snow. It snowed on and off all day yesterday, so I don't know how much more we got since then. I will be going out to finish shoveling the sidewalk here pretty soon. I got sidetracked yesterday and never finished it. For some strange reason I have been wakening up at 4am for the last couple days. So this morning I decided to just get up. I do see a nap in my future this afternoon though. :)
December 2 4:08 pm
Temp is 27. I took "TRUSTY" out this morning and checked a couple different places and there was 10 1/2 inches of snow on the ground. It snowed last night and the wind was blowing pretty hard. So maybe there is more snow in other places. Husband has been plowing most of the day. The first plows of the season are yukie, until the ground gets nice and frozen so you don't dig it up to much. I have been putting everything away that we brought home from deer camp, and doing laundry. Had a couple guys come in last night with their snowmobiles. Went for a ride last night in the storm, and had a good time. They said there was plenty of snow for riding, and they went out this morning and are still not back yet, so they must be having fun.
December 1 8:08 pm
Temp is 18. I'm back everyone, safe and sound. Lots of snow in the driveway to get plowed tomorrow. Also I will take "Trusty" out in the morning before we plow . He has been standing in the corner all summer and is anxious to get outside!! It sure is different coming back to all this snow. There was none on the ground when I left here. It is windy and snowing and blowing out now.
November 20 6:59 pm
Temp is 37. It is raining out now. Has been off and on all day. I will be busy the next few days and spending Thanksgiving with my family, so I won't have any comments for a few days. Happy Thanksgiving to everyone !!
November 19 2:33 pm
Temp is 36. Rain......
November 17 7:55 am
Temp is 29. It is SNOWING!!!! I wondered why it was so dark out this morning, now I know. I didn't even see this coming. Tv guy didn't say anything about it while I was listening. Good tracking snow for the hunters. Now all the snowmobilers can get excited , at least the ground is getting white. Good day to get some reading and knitting done..................
November 14 11:47 am
Temp is 54. Actually a nice day so far. The sun was out this morning. I have been busy and just checked things out and I see some things are missing from the message board. Chet was trying to switch it around so the most recent posts would come up first, and he must have did something. I have an e-mail out to him. He was here this weekend and fixed our motel page and was quite busy with the computer for a couple days. As you can see, he also hung the Christmas lights. The earliest they have ever been put up I think. I will not be turning them on until closer to Christmas though. Please be patient with us with all the problems we have with this site. Someday it will be like we want it and hopefully will stay that way. :)
November 11 7:33 am
Temp is 41. Happy Veterans Day!!!!! Just a simple Thank You!!!!!!!!!!!!!
November 10 5:29 pm
Temp is 40. It was a nice day out today. Gave us an extra day to get more things done before winter. I am happy to say that our web page for the motel is back. www.upmich.com/vagabond, if you want to check it out.
November 8 9:42 am
Temp is 36. A few flakes falling. Got a covering of snow last night. Not much though. This should make my daughter happy, as she was watching the camera to see if we got snow the other day. She lives in Ishpeming and they got 10 inches. She said it was so not fair that we didn't get any. The school over there where the grandchildren go was even closed. We want snow when the time comes, but this isn't the time yet!! It just makes everything a slushy mess. Bring it around Thanksgiving and then keep it here, when it counts. :) Tv guy says it will be 40 on Saturday and 50 on Sunday, so it will all be gone..........
November 5 10:12 am
Temp is 41. Pouring down rain. Tv guy says windy from 3pm until 6pm tomorrow. Gusty west winds with gusts up to 50-60 miles per hour. So I hope everyone has everything tied down that might blow away. I have to go over to Newberry, that should be a fun drive. The electricity was out again this morning. It went out at 5:30 until 7:42. This is the third time in less than a week that I know of. There are two lines coming into Paradise. We are on one, and the credit union across the street is on a different one. Naturally our line is the one that keeps going out. Now it is very hard to explain to our guests why there is power across the road and we don't have any. I have been asked all kinds of questions like "do you turn the power out at a certain time?" "do we have to put coins in the tv or something?" " is my room the only one without power?" "why doesn't the heat work?" etc etc etc............
November 4 6:52 am
Temp is 29. Frost on the pumpkins this morning folks!!!!
November 3 4:52 pm
Temp is 44. Not a bad day, a little cool. There was a lot of frost last night. But we do have to remember that it is November. Made some banana bread today so I can send some with the guys to deer camp. That will be happening pretty soon. Tv said last night that we are suppose to get snow Monday night and Tuesday that will be more than just a few flakes. Glad I messed up on my dentist appointment, it isn't until the following week. I haven't listened to any weather at all today, so maybe it has changed by now........
November 2 6:38 am
Temp is 36. Good morning. The sky was full of stars this morning at 6 am when I took Maggie out for her morning walk. Tv guy says it is suppose to be a decent day today, but it gets worse each day here after. Even talking snow on Tuesday and not just a few flakes. It figures, I have to go to the dentist on Tuesday..........
November 1 8:34 am
Temp is 37. I haven't been outside yet this morning, so I don't know what it is like. I don't think it is raining tho. It sure was windy last night, and our electricity was out from 8:15 until 10:15. I just looked out the window and it is not raining, but it is still quite windy.
October 31 8:43 am
Temp is 54. HAPPY HALLOWEEN!!! Hey Joe, tell Ralphie that Maggie had a good day yesterday. :) It is quite windy out side, hopefully it won't rain until all the kids finish their trick or treating tonight.
October 30 8:36 am
Temp is 42. Happy Birthday to MAGGIE, our dog. She is 11 years old today. Tv guy says it is suppose to be windy and warm today. That's ok with me. Maybe the wind will blow all the leaves away! :)
October 29 8:09 am
Temp is 39. Can't really tell what it is going to be like outside yet, it is still darkish. I will be glad when we get the time change on the weekend. It sucks at being dark so late in the morning. I see Chet has fixed the message board again. I hope it continues to work like it is suppose to from now on. Where is everyone? Haven't heard from Lucky Randy or Joe and Ralphie for awhile now. Maybe you can jump on the message board now that it is back. Lake Superior Girl, nice picture! :)
October 27 8:42 pm
Temp is 37. It is windy and cold. Ended up raining all day. Chet had to redo the message board again, and now he says that you can post pictures. However I see you can't get anything when you hit the "message" on this page. So for now you will have to go to www.upmich.com/yabb, and that will get you there.
October 27 8:23 am
Temp is 47. Not raining, that's a good thing for a change. Tv guys say it is suppose to rain this evening . It is windy. I see the message board is not cooperating this morning. I sent Chet an e-mail letting him know. I am sorry this is all happening, but I am here in Paradise posting the comments, and he is in Petoskey doing everything else. So sometimes it takes us a while to communicate the problems. At least the camera is working good and you can read my ramblings...............
October 26 8:37 am
Temp is 43. Cloudy, but not raining so far. Tv guy says rain tonight.
October 25 6:16 pm
Temp is 48. It was sunny today, but cool. I would like to thank everyone that brushed the snowmobile trails here last weekend. If anyone is looking for a club to join, how about the Paradise Area Night Riders? You can reach them at www.paradiseareanightriders.com. Hopefully Paradise will have LOTS of snow this winter, and of course we would like to have your business too.
October 25 8:17 am
Temp is 31. Cold folks!! Tv guy says sunny today, so we will have to wait and see. WWW.UPMICH.COM/YABB
October 24 8:20 pm
Temp is 37. We now have a message board again. THANK YOU CHET!!!!!!!!!
October 24 8:19 am
Temp is 41. I think it rained all night last night. Not raining at the moment, but it is cloudy, and windy. All canning is done!!!!! I think it is time to start picking up and putting away for winter now, and I have to get the storm doors on the rooms. I have to take the screens out and put the windows back in. I have a freezer to tidy up and then I guess I will be ready for winter. Now that the message board is still down, I can't check in and see what is going on with everybody. How is everyone? Haven't noticed some of you on here for quite awhile.
October 22 6:40 pm
Temp is 47. I think it is drizzling some. It was a beautiful warm day yesterday. Ok, I decided to dig in and get this canning finished. I made pickled carrots and canned 14 quarts today. Have some more to finish up tomorrow, and some cabbage to get taken care of. Then I can put the canners away for awhile. :) I understand the Haunted Trail was a big success this year as always. Tv guy says the weather is suppose to be going down hill from here. Colder and rainy. Maybe even a flake or two in the air Wednesday or Thursday. It doesn't have to bother snowing yet. Mother nature can save it until after Thanksgiving, then it can snow and stay on the ground for the winter. Lots of snow for snowmobiling I hope!!!
October 20 3:17 pm
Temp is 59. Well as you can see, the message board is NOT fixed. Chet says he doesn't know what happened to it, or how to fix it. Sooooooooo, I asked him to just put a plain old message board on where people can just post their thoughts. But I haven't heard from him and I see he hasn't done anything yet. It has finally stopped raining and the sky looks blue right at this minute. However it is windy.
October 14 8:14 pm
Temp is 43. It has been brought to my attention that the message board is down. I have an e-mail in to Chet to have him fix it, so please check again tomorrow or Tuesday and see if he has had a chance to get it fixed. Thank you for your patience. It was a sunny but chilly day today. I still have some canning to do, and I think I'd better get going on it. It is different when you have to do it, or if you can just do it when you feel like it. I keep putting it off, because I know I can!!
October 13 12:50 pm
Temp is 52. Windy. Happy birthday to our son-in-law Brian!! Now the next birthday in our family belongs to yours truly, and I think we will just skip that one. :) I would like to say thank you to Dan, and whoever his helpers were that gave of their time to brush the snowmobile trail for us in Paradise. I understand that Dan brought up a tractor and worked a day on our trails. I don't know who else was with him, but I am thinking it was Sevie. I have missed the last two chamber of commerce meetings, because I have to stay here, so I don't know if it was talked about there or not. I heard about it from Biskit's Closet. I do want you to know that we here at the Vagabond appreciated it very much.
October 11 2:08 pm
Temp is 53. It is windy and the wind is cold, but it is way better than 90 that we had this summer. I wet to Newberry the other day and lots of the leaves were falling. Took the camera, but I didn't even take it out of the bag. I have zucchini bread in the oven, and thought I would post a few comments while it is baking. Don't forget the HAUNTED TRAIL next weekend. Eve and her helpers do a wonderful job making sure everyone gets scared out of their wits!!! It is held at sawmill creek park, which is next to the paradise inn, and we can hear screams all the way down here. I don't know if I will be able to work there or not. If I do, I have to close the motel, and I really can't afford to do that this year. But it is a fun place to volunteer, maybe I will just show up on Sunday and help with the clean up.
October 5 7:07 pm
Temp is 64. A belated happy birthday to our son, Ralph. By the way, the zucchini salsa is pretty good. Chet was here for a couple hours last night to drop off some "stuff" and get some firewood. He is taking his floor from college camping tonight. Being an RA he has to have some activities for the people on his floor, so that is one of them. Not much else to comment on. When I find a few extra minutes, I have been knitting a dishrag. I made one with a jack-o-lantern on it, and one with a butterfly, it is something different than just the plain old knitted ones.
October 2 4:45 pm
Temp is 65. Wow, I can't believe it has been so long since I have been on here. I went to the Soo today via lakeshore drive and the colors were in my opinion beautiful! I would say you should plan your color tour this weekend or next weekend. Tv guys says rain next week and that always starts to knock the leaves off the trees. Some leaves are starting to fall here in the yard. I have been busy trying to catch up on everything I didn't do this summer when it was sooo hot! I still have some carrots in the ground that I need to can and pickle, and I am going to try a new recipe for zucchini salsa given to my husband by one of his friends.
September 18 8:28 pm
Temp is 70. I was over to Newberry today and the color is just starting. Not much colored yet with still a lot of green. Have any of you been up here for the HAUNTED TRAIL? It is sponsored by the Paradise Area Chamber Of Commerce and it is a fun couple of nights. This year it is Oct. 19 and 20th. It is from 7pm to 10 pm each night with an admission fee of $3.00 per person. If you haven't been to it yet, come on up this year and check it out....
September 10 9:34 pm
Temp is 46. Thought I'd better get on here for a bit and let everyone know I'm still alive and well. I have been busy with the garden veggies. Getting everything put up for winter. Then it was so hot for awhile there, it took all my energy away. The garden is winding down now, and the motel business is slow, so I will start to have more time here soon. We have been getting a lot of rain so far this month. Sure wish it would have rained more this summer, but hopefully it will make up for it with snow this winter.
August 31 7:29 pm
Temp is 66. How is everyone spending the holiday weekend? It has been slow the past week in the motel. I had the opportunity to travel south on M-123 up to M28 the other day and I was surprised at how much color there is already. Also I went to Newberry this morning on M-123 and there was color there also. It is much too early for us to be having this much color. But then it seems like everything is early this year. Hopefully it all means lots of snow this winter for the snowmobile business. I find the snowmobilers in the winter are just nice ordinary people who love the snow. Thankfully they love the sport and choose to come and stay with us, or it would be a very long (and poor) winter without them.
August 28 8:22 am
Temp is 64. See the puddles in the camera picture?? It poured this morning for about one and one half hours with lots of lightening. A new fire yesterday by Engadine. Tv says it is contained, but still burning. Maybe the rain helped put it out tho.
August 27 8:50 am
Temp is 64. A nice morning, just a little breezy. Thought I would get on here before I go out to clean and let you know everything is just fine in our small town. (as far as I know). This is always a busy time of year for me with the canning and freezing for winter. I get the motel cleaning done and work on the veggies while I am doing the laundry. The wax beans are all done now, and I am working on the green peppers again. And I have half bushel of tomatoes sitting in the garage calling my name. So that is why I am not on here much now, besides there isn't much to talk about. No snow or rain to report............
August 22 8;02 am
Temp is 64. I am still here folks, just really busy. Survived the blueberry festival and have got everything caught up that I neglected over the weekend. Thank you to Lake Superior Girl for the donation. We appreciate it very much. Chet and his girlfriend we here for a few days and daughter and new husband we here for the weekend. It was a real nice weekend. But now it is back to reality......meaning I have dilly beans to make today and pickles and don't know what else I will get into.
August 11 4:27 pm
Temp is 87. Wow, this is the second post for today, how about that? I just want to remind everyone that the Wild Blueberry Festival is the 17-18-19th. I hear that the juggler will be back passing that hat!!! :) I was told that about 330 pies will be baked for this year. I will be at the souvenir tent on Friday morning from 9 till noon. Then Saturday from 2:30 till 5 and Sunday noon until 2. So come over and buy a souvenir, and say hi. Hopefully we won't get rained on this year. I think mother nature saved up all the rain last year until the blueberry festival on Saturday and dumped it all on us at one time!!!! I have had a few calls asking if the fire is going to hurt the blueberry festival. The answer is NO! The fire is a long ways from us. I understand it is 50% contained as of this morning, with rain in the forecast for to night.
August 11 7:36 am
Temp is 58. Looks like another sunny day and probably another warm one. guy says a cool down for next week. That will be good. The BROOKS and WILLACKERS family's from "down state" would like to say THANK YOU to all the firefighters that are working on the big Sleeper Lakes fire that is burning up here in the UP. They appreciate all he hard work and effort being put forth to save our beautiful UP woods. (and I would like to thank the Brooks and Willackers for thinking about us here in the up)
August 9 1:16 pm
Temp is 85. PARADISE Is NOT in danger of the fire. Everything is still open, the shipwreck museum, the falls and everything else. People have been calling and asking if the falls are open. YES they are. County road 407 over near Newberry that goes over towards Pine Stump is closed. If you drove into Paradise today, you wouldn't even know there was a fire anywhere.
August 5 7:09 pm
Temp is 82. Warm again today and dry!! The big fire over towards Newberry is out of control at this time. It jumped the northern fire line this afternoon, and is headed towards Pine Stump. Pine stump area was being evacuated about two hours ago. It is reported to have burned over 13,000 acres now. Highway M-123 is closed between Paradise and Newberry until it is under control. I understand they burnt a two mile strip along M-123 to prevent it from crossing over, and it worked. Cathy over at www.yooperyarns.com usually has up to date information if anyone is interested. We are not smelling any smoke here today.
August 3 7:28 am
Temp is 58. Finally some cooler air. This hot stuff was getting to me. There is a fire 16 miles out of Newberry on county road 407. It started yesterday afternoon around 3 and had burned 1500 acres by 8 pm. They say it is out in the middle of the woods and was started by lightening. It is 20% contained this morning. We can smell the smoke here in Paradise, and you could see clouds of smoke last night in the sky. So it must be quite a fire. No homes or cottages around it I guess as they say none are in danger. So that is good.
July 31 7:27 am
Temp is 64. It was hot yesterday and suppose to be hotter today. Will be in the 90's again. I got up early this morning to get some things done while it wasn't so hot, and I didn't get much done, as I shouldn't have sat down here at the computer first. :) Anyway all is well and I am still hanging in there.............
July 26 2:46 pm
Temp is 84. Warm! Joe and Ralphie the wonder dog just stopped in to say hi, leave a donation and get their picture taken. Thanks Joe!! I really appreciate it. Hope you and Ralphie have a wonderful vacation.
July 22 3:59 pm
Temp is 90. Way to hot again and dry. I wish I could post pictures on here so everyone who has not been up here this year could see how low the water is. Maybe I can get one of my family to take a couple pictures and post them on the message board.
July 19 6:34 am
Temp is 58. It was quite warm yesterday, but tv guy says cooler today, with scattered showers. Our garden is doing quite well, however we had a visitor sometime yesterday. Munched a couple beans and a bite or so off the corn. Mike found a deer track in there yesterday afternoon. Hopefully he was just passing through!!
July 16 1:08 pm
Temp is 74. Not to much to comment about these days. So what do you think of the new colors for the site? I like them. The green and yellow was getting old.
We picked zucchini twice from the garden. It sure is good. Have lots of green tomatoes and some small peppers, so it won't be long before we can enjoy some of those also............
July 13 8:09 pm
Temp is 60. Just thought I would give this a try before Chet leaves tomorrow, in case I have any problems. So far so good! :) If you have been checking the camera images and saw lots of activity on the road, they are resurfacing M-123. It looks nice.
July 13 10.16 am
Temp is 68. Hopefully I am back now. Guess we lost the message board for a few days tho. It will be back up soon. Our computer died and we had to get another one, that is why I haven't been in here.
June 30 8:11 am
Temp is 55. It has been chilly up here the last few days, but no complaints from me. Yesterday morning they had frost over in Newberry. A guy called up and cancelled his reservation because we never had air conditioning, and I guess he didn't want to believe it was only 65 here then, anyway the furnace was running before the night was over. We do still need the rain. Of course the tv guys say the first chance is on the 3rd and 4th. We go along time without it, then when a holiday comes along it rains.
June 28 9:01 pm
Temp is 50. It has been cool for the last couple days. Tv guy says cool for a few more days also. We need rain again. Everything is drying up and the grass is getting crunchy. Enjoying the grandchildren and today we weeded the garden. Chet came to visit tonight also.
June 25 1:12 pm
Temp is 90. Wow, where does the time go? Almost the end of June. Seems like it was just spring. It is very hot today and the tv guy says hotter tomorrow, then maybe some rain for the next three days, and a little cooler for the weekend. Guess I should go out and water my poor flowers. The grandkids are here for the week, so we get to visit with them.
June 22 12:41 pm
Temp is 67. My kind of day! HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO CHET!!!!!!!!
June 19 2:26 pm
Temp is 67. What a difference a day makes! Yesterday it got up to 93. It was awful hot, then it rained last night. Today is cloudy and windy and real comfy outside!!
June 18 10:12 am
Temp is 81. I liked yesterdays temp a lot better. It is suppose to reach the 90's today and it has a good start. We did get some much needed rain last night. Tv guy says it is suppose to cool off some tomorrow. Rain at night and warm during the day is good for the garden tho I guess. I have three batches of rhubarb sitting here on the table waiting to be made into jam, so I guess that will be my project for this morning.
June 17 8:58 am
Temp is 64. Now that's more like it for 9 am. HAPPY FATHERS DAY The father that lives in this house is going fishing!
June 16 10:05 am
Temp is 81!!! This really sucks unless you love the warm weather. I don't!! Give me 70 and I am happy. Hi to Leepster, stop in and say hi this winter when you are in the area. Hopefully you won't hear me complaining about the heat then. :) But ya never know with these crazy winters we have been having............
June 15 11:23 am
Temp is 84. HOT again, with NO rain. This is starting out like last summer. I had a wonderful day yesterday visiting with my two grandchildren for the day. Their dad brought them up to visit us. This is the first time we saw them since Christmas, so it was a pleasant surprise. They are growing up too fast..........
June 12 2:36 pm
Temp is 93. HOT HOT HOT!!!!! Way too hot for me. I just got back from Newberry and the gas was $3.27 per gallon. It dropped two cents while I was in town. Glad I waited until I was on my way home to fill up!!!!!!!!!!!!! I couldn't get online earlier when I tried to post this, so I will try again. It is now 8:41 and the temp is 70.
June 10 12:03 pm
Temp is 75. Well I got the rooms cleaned and the hummingbirds fed, so thought I'd see if anyone has been on the message board lately. Gas is down to $3.52 here in town now.
June 8 11:08 am
Temp is 64. Windy. Tv guy says it will be cooling off about 10 degrees later this afternoon. Not much to say, except things are starting to come up in the garden. I did make some rhubarb strawberry jam yesterday. The kind with jello. I have to make quite a few more jars yet too. It tastes good in January when it is snowing and blowing outside.
June 5 8:32 am
Temp is 48. Cloudy and windy. It rained all day yesterday, and we sure needed it. I have some flowers to plant today, so I will get that done. Since the wind is blowing away the bugs, it will be a good day to do it. Someone asked on the message board if the mosquito magnet worked. Yes it works!! We have had it for a few years now. We sure have caught a lot of the little "buggers" with it. You can't imagine the amount of them that is in the bag when we have to empty it out. Howling winds and snow in Montana and Idaho today!! Guess they don't have to worry about the bugs hey?
June 1 9:43 am
Temp is 74. Hot and muggy feeling to me! On Wednesday night, I got a little older! No it wasn't my birthday, but the 8th grade graduation of my one and only grandson, Joshua, or Josh as we all call him. (sometimes grandma can call him Joshie, I don't think he reads this) :) What a fine young man, and handsome too, I might add. Did I say I am his grandma? ha ha Anyway he graduated 8th grade at Aspen Ridge School in Ishpeming and next fall watch out Westwood High in Ishpeming!!! I heard he is interested in football, so go Josh!! (Joshie)!!!! Westwood will never be the same again........... (or will grandma) :)
May 31 9:10 pm
Temp is 74. Too hot for nine o'clock in the evening. Went to the Soo today. Remember awhile back when Chet had to get a new tranny in his ranger? Well he had it back in Petoskey for a week and found out he no longer had 4-wheel drive. He put in a call to Soo Motors right away. They told him they wanted him to bring it back to them because they put in the tranny. He wasn't very happy to have to spend money for gas and bridge fare, when it was their fault. To make a long story short, the guy who worked on it said a wire was in his face when he was under the truck, so he tucked it up out of the way and forgot to plug it in again. He plugged it in right away and it was fixed in 10 minutes. Now Chet wanted to just take it to the ford dealer in Petoskey, but they said no. So he asked for gas and bridge money. They did say they would take him to the station and fill up his truck. But he had filled it up when he left Petoskey, so actually they just gave him the gas it took to get there. Guess it was better than nothing, but considering he paid $3000.00 plus for a tranny and it was their mistake, I think they could have at least paid for the whole trip. Don't think his next vehicle will be a ford. Unless his little talk with the rep goes good!! :)

Temp is 62. Cloudy. Looks like there is a small breeze. That is good, it will blow away the bugs. I must say that they aren't too bad yet tho. Of course there has been a breeze almost everyday, and that blows them away. It got hot here yesterday afternoon. I know it was 80 for sure. Have to go over to Newberry this morning for a bit. The propane guys are suppose to come this afternoon and exchange our propane tanks. Ours are badly in need of a paint job. I guess that is what they do in the summer when there isn't much propane being used.

Temp is 48. The sun is out and it looks like a beautiful day today. Happy Memorial Day!
May 26 7:20 am
Temp is 41. The sun is out, the hummingbirds are eating, and I am getting ready for the yard sale. I have a couple rooms to attend to first. We hung up a new hummingbird feeder by the window. It is red, and the hummers won't go to it to eat. Been there for a couple days now. They only keep going back to the original one that suctions to the window. Maybe I should put the new one in the yard sale and go buy another suction to the window one! :)

Temp is 56. Looks like it is going to be a nice day, but cooler. No rain showers last night that was predicted by the tv guys. I was in Newberry yesterday and gas was $3.57.9 per gallon. That is unleaded, no fancy stuff. When will it stop? It is getting totally out of hand at this point. Don't know what I will be doing today. Maybe working on the yard sale "stuff". I know I have some laundry to do also. Remember the community yard sales are Sat. and Sun., from 10 to 5.

Temp is 67. Well as you can see, I'm BAAAAAAACK!!! Can't get rid of me that easy. :) Actually the power supply in our computer died, and we had to order a new one. We did have an old computer that we hooked up, and it was good enough to go online with, but we didn't have our e-mail or anything like that. So I know the camera has been doing it's think just fine. It was hot here yesterday. Temp was in the 80's, and it was windy. We lost our power from 6 pm until 8:30.

Temp is 40. It is raining. We needed the rain. Everything is getting all nice and green. My peonys that were so generously given to me last year are up and growing. I have some work to do in the flowers yet, like pulling weeds etc. Many THANKS to the BROOKS family for the donation for the camera. It is appreciated very much. Did you notice our sign is back up and going? It looks nice in my opinion. Lots of work by Mike and Ralph to make it happen, but I think they did a good job.

Temp is 39. Sunny and bright. Happy Mother's Day. Hope you all have a wonderful day..............
May 12 7:49 am
Temp is 44. Well folks, a few things have happened since I was last on here. We had our sign taken down, and a new one is in the making. We got the ranger back from the garage, and it seems to be working fine. Last but not least the BLACKFLIES are out in full force. It is cloudy right now, so I am sure they are very hungry this morning.
May 10 8:40 am
Temp is 53. Well I finally got my hummingbird feeder out yesterday, and at 6 am this morning we saw the first hummer. He is out here right now. So I guess it truly is summer. :)

Temp is 59. Nice day, but windy and DRY. We need rain. It is starting out like last year with no rain. Not good! I was busy cleaning out and sorting some "stuff" for a yard sale. I decided I have more "stuff" than I need.:) I am running out of room to store it. I said I would never have another yard sale, but this one will probably be the last one. Today I was in a getting rid of "stuff" frame of mind, so it was a good day for me to start. It sure is a lot of work. Deciding what I can part with and piling it up, then it will take me a whole day to price it. A day to set it all out and a day to sell it. Then I can only hope I sell it all, so I don't take it back inside again.
May 5 9:22 pm
Temp is 49. Another beautiful day. I have been spending as much time outside as I can now, enjoying it before the "bugs" come out. My husband did find a tick on his leg tonight. Yuk!! We have a camp over by Crystal Falls, and there are so many ticks over there in the spring especially. You have to check your body every night to make sure there aren't any on you. Not to mention finding them during the day. Haven't been over there in the spring now for two years, and I don't miss the ticks one bit. We don't realize how lucky we are here not to have them yet. But I know they are headed in this direction. I was told they have quite a few of them in Curtis and Newberry. We have a chickadee making a nest in a tall stump. It was a tree that we cut down and left the stump about three feet high. It is now dry and getting rotten. We were watching them today. They have a hole in the tree that looks a lot like a woodpecker hole, only it goes down inside. One chickadee goes in there and you can hear him pecking away, then he leaves and the other one goes in and takes a beak full of the wood and flies up in a branch and drops it. I was watching them for at least half an hour and they never stopped their "house cleaning." So it will be interesting to keep an eye on them. Last year they made a nest in a little birdhouse we have up by our garden. Speaking of garden, I think we are going to make some toad houses either in or around our garden this year. I will leave that topic for another day.

Temp is 55. Today was a beautiful day. There is a ford ranger parked in the camera image! It is a 2001, 4 wheel drive extended cab. It has only been driven to church on Sunday by a little old lady. Well actually it has also been driven by a poor college student who juggles, (CHET) and would like to continue driving it, but there is just one problem. It needs a new transmission to the tune of $3100.00! And to make matters worse, it is 400 miles over the warranty!! It was leaking fluid and he took it in and they told him to drive it and bring it back the next week. So he did!!!! Then when they found out it was a bad tranny, the warranty was expired. So we have shopped around and found the best price we could find for him. So if there is anyone out there who is a ford executive or just wants to help a poor juggler out, feel free to do so!!! I will make sure he gets anything that is sent here for him, and maybe he can even post contributors and thank you notes here. and remember no amount is too small..........................
May 3 8:12 am
Temp is 42. A nice sunny day. Guess what I saw last night? A MOOSE!! It was a small one and it looked yukie. It was/is shedding his winter coat. He was not frightened at all and was munching on some new tender little trees that were in bud.
May 2 1:20 pm
Temp is 59. It is sunny, but it feels cool outside. Just got back from Newberry, saw a couple deer on the way over. We went to Gaylord last night and picked up Chet's truck. He has a problem with it, and so we have it here for Mike at Paradise Service to take a look at it. He is an A-1 mechanic, so we feel much better with it in his hands. I haven't been doing much other than working on spring cleaning. There is an awful lot of washing when you have all the stuff in the motel to do. The grass is greening up and I am still not done raking.........
