April 29 10:12 am
Temp is 61. Partly cloudy. Chance of an isolated shower today. Where is everyone? Lets get this message board going folks. Someone out there must have something to say. If you are interested in a different topic, just let us know. I know in the winter everyone is looking for snow, but we have lots to offer here in Paradise the rest of the year also. Our family really likes geocaching. What does everyone else like to do? Also my guys are into fishing, and Chet would rather turkey hunt. Anyway whatever you are doing today, I hope you have a great day. I will probably be raking and washing spreads, blankets etc getting ready to spring clean.
April 28 4:29 pm
Temp is 68. A real nice sunny day. I got some raking done this morning, then did laundry this afternoon. Lots of birders in town for the weekend. Seems nice to see traffic on the road again, but it will probably be quiet again tomorrow when they all go home. I'll have to get my hummingbird feeders out soon. I have been tracking their migration and they are getting closer.
April 26 4:36 pm
Temp is 56. A little chilly out today. I started raking the yard today. Got it about a third done. If I keep picking at it, I will have it done this weekend sometime. If it rains tonight like the weather guys say it is going to, it will green up. This is Spring Fling weekend for the birders. I hope the weather does just what they want it to do, so they have a good weekend, and see lots of new birds.........
April 24 10:36 pm
Temp is 34. Thought I would get on here and let all the people that will be on here early in the morning where we were all day today. Our web hosting company experienced a hard drive failure and had to swap hard drives. It wasn't anything we did here. It was a nice sunny day today, but the wind was cold. I saw two sand hill cranes today along the point road, but never had my camera. Chet got a new camera this winter and gave me his old one. It is a nice digital one and I have been trying to remember to take it with me when ever I go some place in case I see something interesting.
April 21 12:10 pm
Temp is 61. What can I say? Just another beautiful day in Paradise!! I was just out to the dump and doing the recycling thing, and I saw a lot of people out cleaning yards and raking. There is some talk of smelt running, but actually haven't talked to anyone who has dipped any yet. Ralph was down to the river mouth this morning at about 5:30 and talked to someone there, (still there from last night?) and said they hadn't gotten any.
April 20 11:39 am
Temp is 51. It is a beautiful day. Well we're back with the camera picture!!! Thank you to Ralph for his MANY hours trying to make this happen. Also to Chet and last but not least Scott for all his help over the phone. Even tho you missed the last snow storm, you can at least watch the last of the snow melt out in the yard. We have lots of pretty big piles yet where the snow has been plowed up all winter. Hopefully I will be sending my little comments your way every day or two now. The Spring Fling for the birders is next weekend. Do to a cancellation, I have a couple rooms left if anyone is looking.
April 19 1:49 pm
Temp is 64. It is a beautiful sunny day and the snow is melting fast. This web site is making me crazy, or should I say crazier!!Soon we should be back to normal. Had to get the dsl guy here today to get us back on line. We couldn't access the internet this morning. So all is well with that now. This is the first time I got to check out the web fourm. It looks pretty good to me. Thanks Chet! Well I'm going to go outside and enjoy the sunshine.
April 17 8:47 am
Temp is 36. I hope you are still reading my comments, even tho the camera isn't working YET! We are still working on it and I think it is getting close again. Ralph has been working on it since Chet left, last night for 4 hours. Thanks to a couple calls from Chet and calls to and from Scott in Ohio, he thinks he's got it , and will continue working on it tonight when he gets home from work. He ended up taking the camera down, and resetting it, for one thing. But anyway, we're still here and I am still commenting...............
April 15 4:41 pm
Temp is 50. Beautiful day. Well we had everything working at 1:13 this morning, then Chet decided to mess around with something, and he did something, he doesn't know what, and now the camera won't do whatever it is suppose to do. He had to leave early this morning, because he had to work today, so his brother is trying to figure it out. At least you can see what it looked like out here last night..............Don't give up on us, we're still trying!!!
April 13 8:09 am
Temp is 30. Friday the 13th!!!! The sun is out. Maybe we are done with snow for the year. Do ya think? I hope so. The birdwatchers Spring Fling is just in two weeks. They will have to wade in snow if it doesn't do some serious melting by then. But one good thing, it is spring and the sun is warm whenever it does come out.
April 12 8:35 am
Temp is 31. Snowing and blowing. Looks like about 2 inches of fresh snow on the ground. We are still in a winter snow advisory until 8 pm. Is it ever going to be spring? Please take a minute to fill in the form for us. I see that Chet has removed the old image on the picture. Be patient, it should be up and going this weekend. It doesn't look much different out there anyway. Maybe just some more snow.
April 10 7:03 pm
Temp is 34. Well it looks like I'm back with the comments. Hopefully the camera picture will be back soon. It will be correct this weekend if not before. Thanks to everyone for standing by and bearing with us, it's just that things happen sometimes out of our control..........
April 4 8:04
Temp is 15 Snowing and windy.
March 29 12:28 pm
Temp is 48. The sun is out and it feels nice. I can't seem to get to this page today. Don't know if it is just my computer or something else. Nothing going on anyway I guess.
March 28 7:27 am
Temp is 26. A little frosty out there this morning. No one came to remove the snow by the sign yesterday. Maybe he is just going to let mother nature do it. Tv guy says colder next week. That isn't good. I want the snow to melt so I can start my outside work, and spring cleaning is just around the corner.
March 27 8:22 am
Temp is 38. Cloudy, dark and it looks like rain. Thought I'd better get on here so everyone would know that I am still around. Don't worry, you're not going to get rid of me that easy. There just hasn't been much to comment on lately. You will probably see Del out by our sign today removing some of the snow, getting ready to remove the sign next week. This is a move forward project that was put on hold last November. Lots of snow out there yet.......
March 22 9:56 am
Temp is 37. It rained hard last night. I even saw some lightening. It is windy right now, and just a dark dreary day. But hey, tv guy says beautiful weather for the rest of the week.
March 20 5:05 pm
Temp is 33. All problems resolved. Thanks Chet, and thanks Scott for letting me know. Chet knew what he had to do, but just forgot about it before he left to go home. Soooooo, it looks like we are back in business providing you with a picture of our snow piles. :) Now that snowmobiling is over for the year, we get to sit here and wait for those piles to melt so we can go outside and start on our spring jobs. According to the tv weather guys, it is suppose to rain tomorrow night, and warm up. That will take the snow piles down a little faster. Husband says he is going to take me ice fishing, so maybe later this week if the weather holds up.
March 19-----Trying to resolve problem. Please bear with us.
March 19
IF YOU CAN NOT SEE THE IMAGE FROM THE CAMERA TRY IT AT www.upmich.com/weather/image1.jpg DIRECTLY.
March 19 9:37 am
Temp is 34. We got some heavy wet snow last night. Suppose to warm up and rain later in the week, so all this snow does for us is to make a big mess on the ground again. Anyway, back to the camera picture. I guess it still isn't fixed. I understand if you have an older computer with out JAVA you will not be getting the picture. I am sorry for this , but I/we will possibly have to wait until someone who knows what they are doing can get on here and get it taken care of.
March 18 8:48 pm
Temp is 25. Chet went back home last night. It has been brought to my attention that if you don't have java down loaded on your computer you can not get the web cam picture. If you do, you were getting the new picture every 10 seconds. My son Ralph, got into the camera settings and changed it back to every three minutes to take a picture. Hopefully now everyone can get the picture again. However he doesn't know how to get the automatic upload message off, so you will have to bear with that until Chet comes back, or tells us how to do it via a telephone message. Thanks for bearing with us. We were just trying to make it better. nancy
March 17 5:31 pm
Temp is 34. It is chilly outside. Chet was here and did some work on the camera settings. Hopefully it won't be so bright now when the sun is out. Also it is now taking a picture every 10 seconds or so.
March 16 7:47 am
Temp is 15. How's everyone doing today? I haven't been on here for a couple days. Nothing much to say. Snowmobiling as we know it is basically done for the year. You can ride the point trail and the groomers are still going out, but I have had people say it is to icy and there is not enough snow on the trail for cooling. I am not a snowmobiler, so I don't know. I guess if you have air cooled, it would be fine. I would like to say hi to BOB at Office Max In Petoskey. I hear you read my comments. Next time you get to Paradise, stop in and say hi. :) Check out Dave's trail report on the www.paradisenightriders.com site for a correct trail report.
March 12 4:19 pm
Temp is 44. Cloudy. It sure doesn't feel like 44 tho. It feels cold out to me. We were without power for three hours this afternoon. Don't know why. It was warm yesterday, and the snow was melting. People are still snowmobiling. Our guests were going to leave today, and went out for a ride before they left, and decided to stay another night. They rode to crisp point this morning. So there is still riding to be had. Lots of snow out there that's for sure. They are saying colder temps for the weekend with some snow. But we do need to remember it is almost the middle of March.
March 10 3:56 pm
Temp is 33. Well folks it is snowing. Looks like some heavy wet stuff. Coming down quite hard. If it keeps this up we will have some heavy snow to shovel come morning. I saw on a web site here somewhere this morning, that if you are a snowflake that you are in danger. But I don't think that is the case right now. No melting at the moment.
March 9 7:53 am
Temp is 23. Trails are reported to be excellent. Warm up heading our way for tomorrow and Sunday. All our guests are getting ready to head out for the day. Have a fun filled and safe weekend and try and get that last ride in.
March 7 7:38 am
Temp is 6. An inch of snow last night. Todd and Lisa reported the trails are excellent. Best they have ever seen them. Had a good time. If you want that ride you've been waiting for all winter, you better load up and head north to Paradise. A couple more inches to come tonight. Might be a warm up on the weekend. Also I want to say thank you to Jean.
March 5 11:23 am
Temp is 17, and I have no idea of the wind chill, but let me tell you it is cold. Needless to say I didn't make it to the dentist this morning. Wind and blowing snow so hard you could hardly see across the road at times. No thank you, I won't be driving in those conditions unless is was an emergency. Hi Allison SNOWMOBILE WORLD. COM I got your e-mail. I thought you might be staying that extra night when I saw all the fresh snow....................
March 4 10:50 am
Temp is 34 and sunny. I have been asked why the camera picture is so bright. Well I asked Chet that very question and he said it was just that it is so bright outside with the sun and the sun reflecting off the snow. I won't be on here in the morning, maybe later in the day. I have to be at the dentist at 8 am for a root canal. Oh yea........Can't hardly wait!! :)
\March 3 7:54 am
Temp is 21. A little snow overnight. Our guests report the trails as excellent with all the fresh snow we got on Thursday night. Rick and Allison from Snowmobile World .com I hope you had a safe trip home, ( if indeed you left yesterday. :) It was nice seeing you and hopefully we will see you HERE next year. Hi to the birders in Ohio. Thanks for the e-mail.
March 2 9:45
I'm BACK! I went out and measured, and there is 11 inches of fresh snow. Now you can tell I am not very good at guessing hey? Also Matt L. form SNOWMOBILE WORLD. COM guess who was here yesterday to say hi? We had a nice little chat! :)
March 2 7:33 am
Temp is 23. It is snowing. Looks like a heavy snow. All schools in the area are closed. We were without power last night from 5:45 to 9:10. I didn't mind to much, I just sat by the lantern and read. Our guests were unable to arrive last night because the bridge was closed to all trailers. I don't know how much we got, I"d guess 4 or 5 inches. I will measure it later when I go out to shovel. We are still in a winter storm warning today with more to come. I talked to Chet last night and it was snowing and really windy there. He said it was blowing around so much you couldn't tell how much had hit the ground.
March 1 8:04 am
Temp is 13. The sun is out. A winter storm warning is in effect for tonight and tomorrow. Lots of snow and wind. So be sure and check the camera picture in the morning to see what we do indeed receive.
February 28 8:06 am
Temp is 22. Nothing much to comment about today, other than it is the last day of the month. The tv guys say we have a winter storm coming in for tomorrow. So I guess March will be coming in like a lion. We need some snow on the ground, because everywhere you go it is very slippery from the warm weather we had last week, then it froze again.
February 25 7:53 am
Temp is 14. No new snow. Most of our guests left last night to try and avoid the big storm downstate. Hope everyone made it home safely.
February 24 7:54 am HAPPY BIRTHDAY KENA!!!!!!!!
Temp is 2. It is bright outside, looks like it will be sunny today. But it is cold. Kena is our daughter who is having a birthday today. She's slowly catching up to me! :) Hope everyone has a fun filled safe weekend.
February 23 7:28 am
Temp is -5. Cold out again. No new snow over night. Lots of people in town. Mardi Gras De Snow weekend here in town. Lots of fun events going on. If you are thinking of heading to Paradise for the weekend , it would probably be a good idea to call somewhere and get a reservation ahead of time. As of this minute we do have one room open for tomorrow night.
February 22 8:44 am
Temp is 21. Windy! Just a dusting of snow last night.
February 21 7:30 am
Temp is 25. Tv guys are still saying they are watching a storm for the weekend. Guess we will just have to wait and see. On a sad note a young 18 year old was killed here on the trail yesterday. I don't know the facts, so I won't comment on it for now. I spent five hours working on income tax stuff yesterday. I have about an hour left today then I can get it in the mail for the real tax guy over in the Soo. Hopefully he can work his magic on it, then all we'll have to do is sign it!! Chet e-mailed me some interesting facts yesterday concerning this page. I will share some of them with you. These are different visitors, not repeat visitors:
So far this month we have had 3831 visitors 64.7% added to favorites
January 3190 visitors 94.3% of them added the site to their favorites
December 2180 visitors 68.5% added the site to their favorites
November 1470 visitors 43.7% added to their favorites
October 1305 visitors 26.2% added to favorites
September 1017 visitors 22.2% added to favorites
So I guess there are people keeping track of the conditions in Paradise............
February 20 8:28 am
Temp is 25. Tv guys are watching a big storm for the weekend. Not sure if it is for the up or not yet. My son and a couple of his friends went 261 miles on Sunday on their snowmobiles. Said all trails were good, except the snow was a little thin around the Trout Lake area.
February 19 8:32 am
Temp is 15. Looks like just a dusting of snow last night. It did snow some yesterday. I was busy all day, so I didn't really pay much attention.
February 16 8:22 am
Temp is 2. Fresh snow last night, looks like about what we had yesterday morning, that was actually 4 inches when I went and measured it. I measured the snow behind the motel yesterday and there is/was 24 1/2 inches on the ground. Snowed after that , so 25 inches now at least.
February 15 8:02 am
Temp is 3. Looks like about 2 inches or so of snow last night. Tv guy says 2-4 today and 2-4 tonight. Our guests report the trails are beautiful. They rode to Brimley yesterday.
February 14 7:57 am
Temp is -1. No new snow. HAPPY VALENTINE'S DAY ! I went to Newberry again yesterday to pick up some meds, and get the stuff I forgot to get last week. Now I think I am going to stop going there. Now I like snowmobilers, they are our income in the winter, but I know there is one out there that I think needs a lesson. You don't STOP in the center of M-123 when you are crossing it and there is a car coming, and the roads are snow covered and slippery. This happened to me yesterday. A lady on a yellow and black ski-doo did that very thing. I either had to hit the brakes or hit her. I hit the brakes and she did continue on the trail. Then when I put my foot on the gas to go again, I spun out and couldn't steer out of it, so I hit the snow bank where there just happened to be a fence covered by snow. So I took out the grill on the blazer and the front license plate holder. No one was hurt, but I was kinda angry. So thanks Mrs. Ski- Doo rider that stopped in the middle of M-123 yesterday morning about 11 am. I only have to pay my deductible because I chose not to hit you. No deductible if I would have hit you!!!!!!!!!!!! Also thanks to the two people behind you on the bank that didn't even have the brains to come see if anyone was hurt. Hope everyone has a wonderful and happy valentine's day...............
February 13 7:34 am
Temp is -5. Cold out there. No new snow. There was a story in our local paper (the soo evening news) that Paradise is not done with the lake effect snow yet this year. So it is far from over folks. Reports are all trails are "really nice". Had a couple guys that left Sunday morning for Munising and when they got back last night, they said "boy you guys got more snow than Munising." I was a little surprised to hear that.
February 12 8:00 am
Temp is 1. We had a couple inches of snow late yesterday afternoon. It really came down for a couple hours. A real white out, then it stopped. What about New York? Wow, now that is a lot of snow in a few days. That is when it becomes WORK!!
February 11 11:31 am
Temp is 29. Sunny. No plowing this morning or shoveling sidewalk. What a change to see the sun. We have had to plow on Feb. 3-4-5-6-7-8-9-10. I am not complaining one bit. Just wish it could have came a bit earlier. Someone said the other day that maybe they could still ride in April this year. That would be cool. Not much to comment about, Chet and Bethany were here to visit this weekend. Nice to see them. Having the snow removed from the motel roof this week. Haven't had to do that for the last couple years. Guys are gone ice fishing today, so I will get all my work done and read my book while it is nice and quiet.............
February 8 8:19 am
Temp is 17. More snow last night. "Trusty" tells me there is 6 inches of that white stuff out there this morning. It is snowing now with 3 to 6 inches expected. Doesn't seem like that long ago we were praying for snow, now next week we will be getting our roof shoveled!!
February 7 9:15 am
Temp is 17. More snow last night. Probably another 4+ inches. Well yesterday the sun came out and my aunt over in Newberry said it was sunny there, so I thought, this is a good day to go shopping. Going over wasn't bad, but coming back wasn't very much fun. Was still clear and nice when I left there, but had whiteout conditions between north of Newberry all the way to the Chippewa county line. The road in Luce county wasn't plowed and with the wind, you couldn't tell where the road was. Then the wet snow started to fly up on the windshield and for some strange reason the wiper decided not to clear the middle of the windshield. I couldn't stop in the road to try and do something with the wiper, because I didn't want to risk getting rear ended or worse. Anyway I made it home. Got all the groceries unloaded, cooked supper and just as we started to eat, the power went out. This was 6:10pm. We were with out power until 12:30am. It was getting cold in here. Temp was 57 inside and 8 outside when it finally came back on. Then I had to clear the table, do dishes and everything else I couldn't do. So I was up late last night........
February 6 7:43 am
Temp is 4. It snowed last night, probably 3 inches or so. It is snowing now. Snow advisory for today with 4 to 6 more inches possible. I am wanting to go over to Newberry for some things that I need, but don't really want to drive in this snow and blowing snow. So I guess I will just wait it out. Tv guy said the wind chill over there is -27 to -30. Nice and warm in here. :) Heard from our daughter yesterday that lives in Ishpeming and she said it was -18 with -40 wind chill. Brrrrrrrr!!!!
February 5 8:07 am
Temp is 8. A heat wave I believe. Yesterday our high was 3. It snowed yesterday and last night, but it was so windy and blowing around I have no idea how much we got. Wonderful, flat, smooth, beautiful are just some of the words that the guys were saying about the trails yesterday. So we have plenty of snow and lots of snowmobiling to be had, so make plans for the ride you been waiting for.
February 4 7:37 am
Temp is -4. It got up to a balmy 9 yesterday. It snowed yesterday and it was really coming down last night when I went to bed. Hard to measure, because the snowmobiles drive on it and pack it down. Today is a big cleaning day for me, because just about everyone checks out today. When I am done, I will try and find a place where I can measure. Stay warm............
February 3 3:14 pm
Temp is 8. It was -1 this morning at 7 am. It has been snowing most of the day. We plowed the drive this morning, and the vehicles parked in front of the camera didn't have any snow on them when it started. It is too cold to go out and measure. Probably a couple inches. I went to the dump this morning and I am glad I didn't have to go any farther. It was snowing hard, the roads hadn't been plowed, and snowmobiles were all over the place. Some were riding on the road along side of the trail. duh! Wonder where they took their snowmobile safety course???
February 2 10:32 am
Temp is 21. This morning earlier it was 15. Curious as to how cold it will actually get here in the next few days. It is usually warmer here by the lake than a few miles away. Tv guy says snow advisories for today with 4-6 inches of snow. Not doing anything right now. Matt, I liked your little mention on Snowmobile World .com. Thanks to you guys, and we'll see you in a few weeks!! We'll order up a ton of snow for you guys to enjoy while you are out at the cabin.......
February 1 8:37 am
Temp is 9. No snow overnight. Cold Cold Cold is the forecast for the weekend. It is hard to believe it is Feb. already. Where did January go? I guess it went by fast because we were waiting for snow every day.
January 31 11:10am
When husband went to take the plow truck out of the garage, there was 11 inches of fresh snow. So it snowed another inch since my earlier comments. Trusty and I went out and measured behind the motel and there is 23 inches of snow on the ground. So there is probably a little more in places, and a little less in others. Doesn't take it long to pile up when you get the 11 inches in one snowfall. I guess the tv guys were right for once. :)
January 31 8:32 am
Temp is 15. Well folks, it looks like Paradise should look the last day of January, snow covered. "Trusty" was so happy to get to go outside this morning and measure the snow!! He told me we have TEN inches of fresh snow, and it is still snowing. When I go out to shovel today, I will venture out back behind the motel to the undisturbed snow and measure it, so I can tell how much is on the ground. Nick parked the truck with the red trailer there yesterday afternoon, and it is covered in snow.
January 30 8:32 am
Temp is 6. Tv guys say we are suppose to get 1 to 3 inches of snow today, and we are under a lake effect snow watch for tonight and tomorrow. Lots of snow and blowing snow. So we will see............. Also I guess we have some cold weather coming in for the weekend. Good morning to Adrienne. Nick says hi.
January 29 8:10am
Temp is 13. Looks like we got a couple inches of fresh snow last night. Every little bit helps.
January 27 5:12 pm
Temp is 24. Has been snowing off and on all day. We have about 3 inches of fresh stuff on the ground, and it is snowing hard now. It was quite windy this afternoon also.
January 25 8:59am
Temp is 0. We got one inch of snow last night.
January 24 8:07 am HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO JESSICA, OUR GRANDAUGHTER
Temp is 6. It is cold out folks. Swamps and water holes should be freezing up with this weather. Lots of cold weather in the next few days. That is what the tv guy said. We got about 4 inches of fresh snow in the last couple days. People are out riding and have no complaints. Just to remind everyone that the camera is mounted on the motel, and the building you see is the credit union across the street. The town trail runs along side of the road by our sign. The object of the camera is to let you know how much snow is out there. We can not put up a snow stick out there, because it is plowed. Like Matt said the other day, once you've been here you can tell how much snow we have by looking at the camera picture. It is snowing lightly now.
January 22 11:11 am
Temp is 31. A few flurries. A little bit of snow overnight. I want to say thank you to MATT AND DAVE from SNOWMOBILE WORLD for the donation to the camera yesterday. We really appreciate the donations to help us keep this site going. Especially this winter!!!!!!!!!! They are a couple guys that like to ride and have a good time. They told me they were going to Manistique for a charity ride for snowmobile world. Ride safe guys and stop in and say hi and get your picture taken anytime!!! BLESSING OF THE SNOWMOBILES JAN.27th 10:30 am
January 20 10:42 am
Temp is 20. It was 10 this morning at 6:30 when I got up. So it was COLD last night. Nothing much going on today. Plowing the driveway and watching the snowmobiles go by on the trail. There are a few snowflakes falling, but just a few.
January 19 12:19pm
Temp is 25. We received about three inches of snow last night. It has been snowing on and off all day. Right at the moment it is snowing hard. Tv guy says we are still under a lake effect snow warning for 7 to 14 inches of snow by morning. A cold front is heading our way and later this afternoon, the snow should be getting heavy. (as I mentioned before, it is heavy now). I have to say hi to Eric today. I talked to him on the phone yesterday and he says he checks out the camera pictures and reads my comments every day. So Eric, come on up to Paradise and go snowmobiling. Just a reminder, we now have wireless internet for our guests. Plan to attend the Blessing Of The Snowmobiles at 10:30 am on the 27th. Sounds like a good time for all. Where ever you are driving tonight, slow down and drive safely................
January 18 7:41 am
Temp is 20. Tv guys say we are in for some lake effect tomorrow night and into Saturday. They say some of the snowbelts are going to get pounded with up to a foot of snow. We can only hope. I talked to Chet yesterday and he is doing fine. He will be doing some juggling this weekend. He will be working on the motel web page as soon as I send him a few things. Did you see the snow in California? I think we will have to take out a loan to be able to buy oranges in the near future. I don't buy them anyway, I buy clementines. They are sooo good!
January 17 10:34 am
Temp is now 22. I started this comments thing this morning at around 8 am, when it was 15 outside, but I goofed somewhere, and I am hoping that I have it figured out now. We had a couple inches of snow in the driveway this morning since we plowed yesterday. The sun is out now.
January 16 11:20am
Temp is 15. I just got back in from measuring the snow out behind the motel where "trusty" tells me there is 11 inches on the ground. A couple guys that have a cabin north west of here (vermillion road area?) spent the night here and snowmobiled to the cabin this morning, said they have 16 inches of snow there on the picnic table. Said it is about 3 miles from the lake. It has been snowing all morning, but just lightly now. Just a reminder of the Blessing of the Snowmobiles on January 27th at 10 am. Thanks to Ryan for the web cam donation. It all helps to keep the camera going, especially this winter. You know you're a yooper if you can't decide whether the road you're driving on is paved or not........
January 15 8:05 am
Temp is 17. We got an inch or two of snow last night. Tv guy says two to four more on it's way. It is snowing lightly now. It looks like it is quite windy also.
January 13 7:45 am
Temp is 8. Yes you are seeing it correctly, it is 8. We had 3 inches of new snow late yesterday afternoon, after I finished my comments. Both John Dee and the tv guys say lake effect for next week. None of our guests are up and about yet, so there is no one I can ask about the ride they had last night. But every little bit helps I guess. Just to remind you of the Blessing Of The Snowmobiles on January 27th at 10:30 am if anyone is interested.
January 12 8:54 am
Temp is 31. No new snow. It was warm yesterday. No rain overnight. I have a couple staying here that went out yesterday morning and rode 60 miles. They came back at 11 and checked out, and went in the search of more snow. They came back in the afternoon and said they had went as far as Munising and they had under an inch, and this was the place that had the most snow. They met another couple and went out again. I just talked to them and they rode 50 miles last night. Lots of dirt on the trails, but they said if you got off the trail and went off on your own you could ride. So that's the way it is. It is now 3:16 pm. I didn't get to finish this morning, but now I'm back. It seems as though there are some different opinions as to how much snow we have here. I just took "trusty", my measuring stick out behind the motel, where the snow has not been disturbed, plowed , walked on or whatever, and there is 6 inches of snow. Keep in mind we are in town. There is less snow up toward the point. I went to Strongs today and there were about 11 machines sitting at the bar. On my way back I saw 7 machines between Silver Creek and Paradise. There was a lot of mud there to be seen also. There was not much snow until I got right into town, then I thought to myself, wow, we do have more snow than anyone else. Anyone that knows me, knows I don't lie about the conditions to get business. I even have called people and told then not to come. It is 24 out now and snowing. Not suppose to get much until the lake effect kicks in on Monday. That is what I heard from the tv guys. I hope this helps anyone who doesn't know what to think about the amount of snow we have. I will be back here tomorrow and let everyone know what has happened between now and then.
January 10 8:51 am
Temp is 18. We got 8 inches of snow since we plowed yesterday. So we have a good foot of snow on the ground. It was really windy yesterday afternoon early evening and it was blowing around. I would say you can now snowmobile. Thanks for the e-mail Matt, we'll see you when you get into town.
January 9 8:49 am
Temp is 21. Trusty says we have 4 inches of snow on the ground. Tv guy says we have 4 to 7 more inches on it's way. It was snowing pretty good about an hour ago, but it has now stopped. Tv guy also is talking about a big storm for Sunday, but I missed where it is going to hit. I am ready for a big storm. Seems like we haven't had the storms in recent years like we used to have. I can remember when we had drifts on the sidewalk of the motel up to the windows. Sounds hard to believe, but it is true. I know, I was one of the people shoveling it!!! At least it looks like winter outside.
January 8 9:16 am
Temp is 30. An inch of snow last night, with more in the forecast. It is very dark and cloudy out right now. I'll try and keep you posted if we get more snow today.
January 6 6:26 pm
Temp is 32. We have had snow showers on and off all day. It snowed and melted, snowed and melted. Hopefully the tv guy is right, and it will get and remain colder.
January 5 8:45 am
Temp is 40. Tv guy says maybe some snow this weekend. Now wouldn't that be nice? Yesterday it was cloudy and dark all day. It looked like it was going to pour rain any minute, but it never. Yesterday I found two little pansy flowers in my flower garden at the end of the motel. Today I am going to take a picture of them. It feels like spring and that we should be getting ready to plant the garden. How about the snow out in Denver? Those people are getting sick of it. I hope I am not boreing you with my comments lately, but there is just not much to talk about.
January 3 8:53 am
Temp is 31. A little breeze. Tv guy said today is suppose to be really windy, and warm. Maybe, just maybe it will be cooling off next week with some snow. John Dee even predicts snow for us in the near future. Sure hope you are right John!! He usually is. Not much going on around here. Chet got me a " su doku for dummies" book for Christmas (thanks Chet, are you trying to tell me something) and I have been trying to figure it out. I did manage to do one of the easy puzzles the other day. There will be a blessing of the snowmobiles on Jan. 27th at 10:30 am. So if you are in the area you might want to plan on attending. Maybe there will be lots of snow by then............
January 1 9:01 am
Temp is 35. Rain, rained most of the night. Windy. Hope everyone had a safe and happy new years eve. I spent it curled up in my favorite chair wrapped in a blanket watching tv. Nice and comfy.........
December 29 4:47 pm
Temp is 27. It is snowing folks. Started about a half hour ago. The sand in the driveway is actually getting covered. It has been cold all day today and cold at night, in the 20's, so that is good for freezing up the swamps for when we do get a lot of snow. As everyone knows the weather is weird all over this winter. Talked to our friends in Florida on Christmas day and they said it was really hot there, in the 80's and they had the air conditioner running. Normally it is not that warm there this time of the year. Where they are at least.
December 28 9:32 am
Temp is 24. No snow! The house is getting quieter each day. Daughter and family left on the 26th, and Bethany came. She left yesterday, and Chet will be leaving today. Then it will be back to the old normal routine, just waiting for snow, and wondering what's going to happen with this winter. I have a day of putting away decorations and taking down the tree. Usually I have it down by now, but it is still up today. Just wanted to check in and let everyone know we are still here, doing all we can to conserve heat and electricity and waiting for snow. THINK SNOW
December 25 3:22
Temp is 34. Not doing much of anything out today. Just want to wish everyone a Merry Christmas. We had all our family here, and had an enjoyable day. Dinner is almost cooked, then everyone will be stuffed. Turkey with all the trimmings. As usual THINK SNOW!!!!!!!!
December 23 3:05 pm
Temp is 35. Rain/snow The temp is 33 for awhile, then I look again and it is 34, now 35. Soon it will be back to 33. When it is 33, there are big beautiful snowflakes falling from the skies. But only for a bit, then the temp raises again and it either quits or turns to rain. So if we could just drop the temp a few degrees and keep it there we would be in business. I am spending all day cooking, so I won't have to cook tomorrow. I always fix a few salads and snacks for Christmas eve, and relax and enjoy my family. However I am getting tired, so I will have to get up in the morning and make pie. Chet will be coming home tonight after work and our daughter and her family will be here tomorrow. THINK SNOW!!!!!!!!!!!!
December 22, 8:15 am
Temp is 35. Rain. Looks like some snow is headed our way in the next few days.............
December 20 11:43 am
Temp is 41. Wind. Well folks that says it all right there. Not much snow although it does get cold at night. Cold enough to make us turn on the heat in all the rooms so the water doesn't freeze and just watch the propane tank empty!! This really sucks people. Think snow, and hopefully it will come one of these days.
December 16 3:53 pm
Temp is 38. Just a dull cloudy quiet day. We put up the Christmas tree today. It makes the house smell sooo good! I have these ornaments that are green and white with moose and evergreen trees on them. Then I have some wooden beads that look like cranberries, and green and clear lights. It looks pretty good if I have to say so myself. A tree perfect for living in the northwoods. Now all we need is a couple feet of snow and all would be good. Guess I"d better go and stir the chili. It smells good thanks to "Lucky Randy" and the Mrs. for bringing me the green peppers last summer that I put in it.
December 15 7:54 am
Temp is 36. It doesn't seem like it is almost Christmas. Maybe if it would start to snow, it would be different. This really sucks people. Sure would be nice to have a paycheck every couple weeks and not have to depend on mother nature for your income. Tv guys say a cool down and maybe snow the end of next week. That would be nice. :) I guess I should make some goodies. Maybe some fudge and a variety of cookies. Have to do laundry also, but I see my book sitting on the table looking lonely, so maybe I should just read for awhile before I get started with my chores! I just saw on tv that a woman won $10,000 for wrapping the perfect present. A contest put on by scotch, the tape people. What ever happened to wrapping gifts in the funny papers from the Sunday paper?
December 13 5:01 pm
Temp is 35. Windy. The web cam is mounted on our motel and looks out toward the road, town trail, and the building you see is the credit union. Maybe someday we will get another camera up and going.
December 11 3:11 pm
Temp is 36. Cloudy. Not much to comment about these days. Doing a little Christmas shopping and that's about it.
December 7 9:29 am
Temp is 17. We got 5 inches of snow over night, and it is snowing really hard right now. I saw a snowmobile go past on the trail awhile ago.
December 6 8:45 am
Temp is 25. We have received 2 inches of snow since Monday. Thank you to "The B Family" for your generous donation to the site. It was nice meeting you last spring. It has been cold here. It was 8 the other night when I went to bed. If I heard the tv guy correctly this morning, we are suppose to get more snow tonight. Have a great day and THINK SNOW!!!!!
December 4 11:33 am
Temp is 25. It was 12 this morning at 7:30am. "Trusty" told me there is 8 1/2 inches of new snow on the ground since we plowed on Saturday morning. Hubby is plowing now. It is snowing now and it looks like some of it is blowing off the trees. The town trail runs along side of the road right out by our sign, so we are close to the snowmobile trail, and we have ample parking for all those big rigs. We are also still accepting donations to keep this sight going, and thanks to all you that have donated in the past.
December 2 9:50 am
Temp is 28. Sun is out with a very light snow. We got 5 inches of snow yesterday and last night. So there is 5 inches on the ground now. It is so beautiful where no one has walked or disturbed it. I just love it.
December 1 1:40pm
Temp 24. Windy and it just started to snow a few minutes ago. Tv guy says we are only suppose to get 1 to 3 inches, but we will see. I am sure this white stuff will stick around until April or May, hopefully. Our business in the winter depends on the snow. I really don't mind the snow, like a lot of people I hear complaining. I guess this isn't the place to live if you don't like it. I will try and make it a point to get on here tomorrow and let you know how much snow fell overnight. Besides, "Trusty" is getting tired of standing in the corner!!!!!!!!!!!!!
November 27 12:02 pm
Temp is 37. Raining. How was everyone's thanksgiving? Good I hope. We were in hunting camp. Had a good time hunting. Tv guy says it is suppose to get cold and snow on Friday. I hope so, it is getting close to snowmobiling time and we need the white stuff for them.
November 18 10:33am
Temp is 37. A few sprinkles this morning. No one in my family got a deer yet. Guess I will have to show them how it is done! :) I see there are about 5 deer hanging up across the road, so someone had some luck this year. Not much to comment about this time of year. Tv weather guy did say last night that there is no snow any where in the future, and it is suppose to be a mild winter. That is not what you like to hear when you have a motel and you've just had the worse fall ever. Fall? Did I say fall? I don't think we had much of a fall this year. It went from summer to winter and snow, lost all our color in a few days, and now it is back to mild again. I sure hope we get snow for the Christmas week of snowmobiling.
November 14 10:02 pm
Temp is 38. Wow, that is pretty warm for this time of the night. Tomorrow is the opening day of firearm deer season. Good luck to all you hunters that are lucky enough to have the day off to hit the woods. Thanks to the people that wished me a happy birthday the other day. That was nice of you. We have NO snow on the ground, but about 10-12 miles south of us they do. I was at Pickford this morning and they still have snow there also. I think the tv guy said it is suppose to rain tomorrow and no one is quite sure what Thursday will bring yet. I hope not a storm or even snow, because I have to be at the dentist at 9:am. Awhile back I said we would be moving our sign in a few days. Well that didn't happen, and we can leave it where it is until spring. The snowmobile trail will still go by it like it did last year for now.
November 11 1:38 pm
Temp is 37. Not to bad out actually. I hope everyone has a wonderful Veteran's Day, and thank you to everyone who is serving our country now and in the past.
November 9, 2:51 pm
Temp is 42. It is quite windy, and the wind is cold. You for sure need a jacket and hat when you go outside. Today is my birthday and I'm not telling my age. :) Chet and Bethany came to visit today. Chet is gathering all his hunting equipment and getting ready for deer season.
November 6 12:11 pm
Temp is 52. Sunny!!!!! It is so nice outside. I think we are getting this warm weather to finish up all the things we need to get put away before winter. I defrosted my upright freezer this morning, now I think I have all my little extra jobs done. Tomorrow is election day and it is not to soon for me. I am getting so tired of the phone ringing with election stuff. Then it rings and no one is there. That has happened twice so far this morning. I was ready to tell the next person that called that I was going to vote for the person who leaves me alone!!!! It really bugs me when they call and ask you who you are going to vote for. I thought that was my business and no one else's. Now that I have complained about the election, I think I will go outside and enjoy the sunshine.
November 3 11:22 am
Temp is 35. Cloudy. I just took out "trusty" (that's my measuring stick) and it tells me there is now 4 inches on the ground. We had more yesterday, but it is now settling, since it is up to 35. Tv guy says a warm up for Sunday, so I think the snow will melt. I baked a couple pies this morning, but I never left the kitchen, so they didn't burn.............
October 31 4:10 pm
Temp is 39, and cloudy. HAPPY HALLOWEEN EVERYONE!!!!!!!
October 30 4:35 pm
Temp is 46. A beautiful fall day today. The sun was out and it was so nice. You may see some activity out by our sign during the next week or so. The sign will be taken down and a new one constructed off the right a-way of the road. This is all in preparation for the snowmobile trail. Hopefully we will have lots of snow this winter and we will have lots of snowmobilers on the trail!! We are still accepting donations to keep this camera going.............. :)
October 29 9:19 am
Temp is 37. Windy. It is cold outside. Not raining at the moment, but it rained last night. Not much going on around Paradise. No business that is for sure. The early fall put a quick stop to that. With the strong winds yesterday afternoon and last night, I am surprised the electric didn't go out. It was out last night up toward the falls.
October 26 3:02 pm
Temp is 48, and partly cloudy. It is actually quite nice outside. We have wireless internet now in our rooms. Chet is going to work on the motel web page when he gets time , so we will have that back up and going. I need to take some pictures and e-mail them to him, but I want to wait until we get some snow or something. Everything looks so bare and yukie with all the leaves gone and stuff.
October 22 1:08 pm
Temp is 43. The wind is cold. I got back from helping clean up the haunted trail about an hour ago, and it seemed warmer out then. There were a few snowflakes falling this morning about 9 am. There were a lot of scary people in and around Paradise the last two nights. I might add there were also a lot of scared people here also. I think everyone had a lot of fun at the haunted trail this year. I was working in the refreshment tent last night and I know we sold an awful lot of hot chocolate!! It was kinda chilly out. Thanks to Eve and her group for all the hard work...........
October 20 8:36 am
Temp is 36. Looks cloudy out, but not raining now. Tv guy says " shovelable" snow this weekend. Wonderful!! Just wonderful!! The snow this time of year doesn't do anyone any good. Just makes a miserable mess. I'm off to the dentist again today, then just one more time and I will be done. Haunted Trail starts tonight. If you're in the area, it is a fun time for everyone.
October 16 3:36pm
Temp is 48. Cloudy and suppose to rain. Was windy earlier, but it seems to have died down now. Town is very quiet. The early fall we had took a toll on business. According to my calendar last year peak color was the 15th of Oct. I have just been puttering around doing things that went undone all summer and some things that need to get done before winter. I will be busy for along time!! I did some painting today and made some cinnamon rolls.
October 12 8:14 am
Temp is 30 with snow falling. We got our first snow last night, and it is snowing some right now. I'll let the camera picture speak for it's self............
October 8 6:32 pm
Temp is 63. It has been very windy all day today. Lots of leaves coming down. Tv guy, (you remember him from last winter) just said it is going to be nasty on Thursday and Friday. Maybe sleet and snow showers. Can you believe it? Already?? There are to many things I want to get done yet before it gets to cold out. Chet moved out a lot of his stuff: last weekend, so mom , (me) packed up the rest and put it all away today. So the room is almost empty tonight, and I can start painting soon. There is a virus going around and everyone is coughing, sneezing, etc. I had a tooth pulled on Friday, and I am not suppose to cough, sneeze or blow my nose for a few days, so I hope I don't get it. Hopefully my tooth will be healed up before I do get it. Maybe I won't tho. Congratulations to our grandson Josh, he shot a 5 point with his bow last week. His first year hunting. Way to go Josh!!
October 3 4:59 pm
Temp is 64. It has been sunny and cloudy both today. Cloudy right at the moment. HAPPY BIRTHDAY to our son Ralph!!!! The colors are beautiful, especially when the sun is out. I was in Newberry yesterday, and M123 to Newberry was very pretty. This morning I was in Bay Mills, at the dentist and even tho it was foggy all the way there, the colors were nice. Yesterday there was a break in a fiber optic cable somewhere in Wisconsin, so we lost our internet, credit card machines and cell phones. Some people have been stopping in to say they read these comments and just wanted to say hi. I am glad someone likes my rambling on and on and on.................
September 25 8;21 am
Temp is 48, with rain. The fall colors are beautiful. I went over to the Soo yesterday and was surprised at all the color. On M-28 a few miles east of Strongs was especially pretty to me. It is an area that was cut over before and there is a lot of pine trees growing and they are dark green and the maple trees are growing up throughout the pine trees, and they are colored pretty reds and oranges. We finally have nice green grass in our yard, because of the daily rain we have been getting.
September 23 11:46 am
Temp is 67, and the sun just came out. It has been cloudy all morning long. Our power was out last night for about 3 1/2 hours. Don't know the reason, but I know it sure was dark outside. As you an see the camera is back up and working, thanks to around 6 hours of working on it by son Ralph. We now have DSL and no more direcway. We still haven't seen the repair man they were going to send out two months ago. They tell me there is nothing wrong, that they can check and we are "active". Well, I don't care how much they check from wherever they are, there is water in the little thingy on the dish, and we can't get online when it is full of water. Soooooooooooooo, they can go jump in the lake, and I hope they miss my monthly payment I made to them each month for a few years now. I do not and will not recommend them to anyone either. Boy I am getting to sound nasty, guess I'd better get outside and enjoy the fall sunshine.......... :)
September 21 8:39 am
Temp is 44 with light rain. The camera is not working now. We got the dsl yesterday afternoon, and I see the camera stopped updating when we unplugged the direcway modem. I just reset the camera, but I
have a feeling it won't be working until Chet comes here to redo it. He is due to come here soon. I will call him today to see if there is something we can do until he gets here. So please be patient and hang in there. Nancy
September 20 11:08 am
Temp is 52, with light rain, and some wind. We have been getting a lot of rain in the last few days. I found a new zucchini bread recipe and I have some in the oven now. I tried frying some zucchini last night, and it wasn't that good. Too late in the season for that, so now I can just use it for baking. I will be putting more in the freezer since some recipes call for it shredded and some grated. I ordered dsl about a week ago and they said I would get a call within three days to schedule a time, and since I never received a call, I called them this morning. It just so happens they have a guy over here today and said he would call me when they got a hold of him. So far no call. but maybe we will be lucky enough to have it installed yet today. I was going to go to the woods and see if there just happened to be a high bushed blueberry some where that I could pick, but now I better stay here. Besides it is raining.
September 17 1:58pm
Temp is 77. Right now it is cloudy, but the sun has been out. It was really windy earlier, but seems to have calmed down now. It is warm outside, but I guess we better enjoy it the tv guy says it is going to be cold all week. I think it is suppose to be in the 50's tomorrow. I was going to do some baking, but I think I'll wait until tomorrow. I think I will have some more tomatoes to can then too. So today I am doing all the laundry so I will not have to do much of that tomorrow.
September 15 12:49 pm
Temp is 74. The sun is to hot. There is a little breeze tho. Today is the first day of partridge hunting, and when I went to Newberry this morning I saw two of them along side of the road. Went to Newberry and was back home at 10:30 am. How's that for a fast trip? Got food and meds, now we are all set again for awhile. HAPPY LATE BIRTHDAY TO BETHANY!!!!!! It is too nice to stay in the house, so I am going to finish the laundry and go outside and enjoy it.
September 14 8:08 am
Temp is 48 with fog. Well we didn't have to get up early yesterday and go to Marquette for the scan. Dr. cancelled it. Decided on something different. Maybe the new one will be closer to home. We have a seagull here that likes tomatoes!!! He is getting in the garden and having a feast on our nice big tomatoes. Yesterday he went right down a row and picked at several until he found the one he liked and then he ate that one. Not good Mr. Seagull!!!!!!!!! We keep picking the riper ones and taking them inside in the dark to finish ripening, so I can get enough to can. The tv guy says it is suppose to be 80 on Saturday, so maybe that will ripen up a few more.
September 12 8:34 am
Temp is 54 with rain. Not to much going on around here. However my washer died on Saturday and we had to go buy a new one. Love those unexpected expenses!!! But I really shouldn't complain as my old one did quite a few loads of laundry. My husband went to the doctor on Thursday and she decided he needed a special scan. So when we left the office she said she would set it up. Friday evening about 8 pm he gets a phone call saying we have a cancellation here, can you be here on Monday at 3:30 in the afternoon? He asked her if there was any prep? She said no. Now this scan was to take place in Marquette, which is a 2 1/2 hour drive. Yesterday it was much longer because of all the construction going on. Anyway we get there and wait his turn and he is called in and comes back out in about 10 minutes. They can NOT do the scan unless he fasts for 12 hours first. This is really great because we closed the motel to go do this. Now they are going to do it tomorrow morning at 8:30 am. So we will be getting up about 4:30 in the morning. I don't know where or who got the orders messed up, but I think they should double check that stuff when you have to drive so far. Gas was $2.48.9 in the Soo on Saturday when we went for the new washer. $2.59.9 in Newberry yesterday, and $2.72.9 in Marquette. Haven't seen any hummingbirds at all for the last few days. There was one that was still here for awhile, but it must be gone now too. Before I forget. Thank you very much to Mr. and Mrs. Lucky Randy for the peppers. We'll think about you this winter when we are eating them. (they brought me green peppers in august, and refused to take payment for them)
September 8 8:19 am
Temp is 61. Tv guy says we are suppose to have a high of 63 today, so it is almost there . It is a rainy day. Now we are getting rain that we could have used earlier in the summer for the berries etc. Gas prices are still coming down. I was told it was $2.59 yesterday in the Soo. It was $2.79 in Newberry. Don't know what I am going to get into today. Can't do much outside, so I will have to find something in here to do. .
September 4 12:41 pm
Temp is 78. Happy Labor Day everyone! Hope everyone has a safe and restful day. Happy to say I survived the tooth thing with no pain pills. Not even a lonely asprin. Gas prices were cheaper in Paradise the other day than in Newberry. Mike and Ralph hauled all Chet's furniture he had here down to Petoskey yesterday for him. He is excited about the house thing, and I am happy for him.
September 1 4:33 pm
Temp is 74. Happy September!! I just got back from the dentist. Had one wisdom tooth extracted and a filling replaced in another tooth. Oh what fun!! Not bad so far, as I am still numb. Have some pain pills I am suppose to take before it wears off, but I am not taking them unless it is necessary. I am a stubborn cuss!! Hopefully it won't be necessary. :) Weather has been nice, but tv guy says not so nice for Saturday and Sunday. Business dropped down considerably last week. Hope that is not a sign of things to come. Gas prices are coming down. I was in Newberry on Wednesday and it was $2.94.9. I think some of the hummers have left already. There was only a couple around yesterday. Normally there is about 5 to 6 of them out there at a time. I canned 7 quarts of string beans from the garden, and froze a bag for soup and stew in the winter. I also canned 6 quarts of tomatoes yesterday. So I have been keeping my self busy. Chet will be renting a house this year with a couple of friends, so he will be taking his bed, dresser etc from his room. Then I am going to paint it. I have lots I want to get done this fall. We'll see if I make it or not..............
August 27 6:05 pm
Temp is 77. A simply beautiful day. I can't believe it has been so long since I've been on here. I spent most of the day cleaning in the house. Sometimes you just have to do that. :) But I have a lot more to do. We have about 5 to 6 hummers out here feeding now. Keeps me busy making nectar and filling the feeders. I sure will miss them when they leave for the winter.
August 23 7:53 am
Temp is 51. I have more things to do these days, that is why I don't get on here like before. I got all the peppers in the freezer and I canned 5 quarts of string beans from our garden. Doing laundry and cleaning and renting rooms, and answering the phone, plus all the other things........The tomatoes are getting ripe now too. We get to eat all these fresh veggies for these few weeks, and get tired of them, then we have to wait until next year for them again. I refuse to buy cukes in the store during the winter. They are just plain yukie!! Well I better get going and get the rooms cleaned, I have to go to Newberry and get my hair trimmed today. If anyone of you have seen me lately, you know how bad I need it!!! :)
August 21 7:34 am
Temp is 60. The green pepper fairy left me the peppers on my doorstep Friday night. A box full of big beautiful green peppers. Thank you "Lucky Randy" and the Mrs. I missed you all weekend, thought maybe I would run into you at the bbf. Send me an e-mail, so we can get you paid for the peppers!! I have them almost all in the freezer. I have a few more to chop up today. Have lots of work to do today, just wanted to say THANKS for the peppers...........
August 18 8:27 am
Temp is 62. I was up early today, trying to get all my work done early. I will be at the bbf today. Make sure you stop for a minute and watch the juggler!! :) Now I need a favor, if anyone is coming to Paradise and you have access to a bushel or so of green peppers, and you have room, bring them to me, and I will pay you of course. We just don't have any places up here to buy produce like that. The computer picked up a virus or something and my son, Ralph had to reinstall the windows etc, but we waited for Chet to do the comments stuff. So that is why I haven't been on here for a few days. Have a nice day and we will see everyone at the blueberry festival.
August 17 10:36 pm
Temp is 67. Our computer was down, and we got the camera picture back, but just got the comments back up. So here I am again.............
WILD BLUEBERRY FESTIVAL AUGUST 18-19-20
August 11 6:28pm
Temp is 64. It was 43 this morning about 5:30 am. It felt real good to me. As you may have figured out by now, I like it cool. I did have to turn on the furnace for the motel this afternoon, and it is running. Chet was here the other night for the night. He will be back next weekend for the blueberry festival. He juggles here until 4 pm then heads to Petoskey to juggle. . Then he comes back to Paradise in time to go to sleep, and does it all over again on Saturday. Then he juggles here on Sunday, and then back to Mackinaw City for 7 and 9 pm Sunday night. That is always a busy weekend for him.. I will be working at the souvenir tent on Friday from 2:30 to 5 and on Saturday from 12 to 2:30, so if you are in town, stop in and say hi.
August 9 8:04 am
Temp is 59. Looks like it is going to be a nice day. The sun is out and the hummers are feeding and fighting.
August 7 7:45 pm
Temp is 62. I am finally starting to get the house cooled down. I had the fan on high all night last night blowing in and it is 71 in here now. It stays hot in here with all the cooking etc. Had some rain late yesterday afternoon. Then it started to cool down some. Nothing new, same old thing here each day. Hummingbirds are still out in full force.
August 4 7:32 am
Temp is 62 this morning. Feels good. Not much going on around here to comment about, other than it is August already. Where did July go? I think it passed so quickly because we were waiting for a cool day each day. The wild blueberry festival is coming up here pretty fast, then Labor Day, and before we know it, it will be winter.
August 1 6:09 pm
Temp is 80. It has been so hot here that I have not been renting any rooms for the last three days, because we do not have air. Tv guy says it will cool down starting tonight and be in the 70's starting tomorrow. I went to the Soo today, and it was awful hot there also. But I got almost all of the stuff I went to get (forgot something)! Now when it cools down I don't have to go anywhere, and I can do things here. Yesterday it was 100.6 here. I wish we could save this heat and use it in the winter. Now wouldn't that be nice?
July 30 4:18 pm
Temp is 85. Another hot dry day.
July 29 5:36 pm
Temp is 77. We had some rain this morning, then it cleared up and it is a nice day. Happy Birthday today to my husband Mike!!! He is celebrating his birthday by (what else) fishing!!!!!!!! Got a call from the daughter first thing this morning wanting to know if we had a storm last night, and if our garden survived? Well we never got a storm, not any rain at all, so all was good. They had quite a storm in Ishpeming. She no longer has much of a garden. The wind broke off the corn about 6 inches above the ground. Her beans are laying flat on the ground. Tomatoes are broken off, zucchini might survive, even tho it is a mess also. Blew my granddaughters wooden part of her swing set that is like a tower that you climb on over. It was made of treated wood. Hailed there also as everything in the garden has little holes in it. She said she is glad they weren't there at the time, as she would have been scared to death. We had 5 hummingbirds out here this morning fighting for nectar, so my son put out another feeder on the window. So now we have four places for them to eat. I am sitting here by the open window now, and they are chattering like crazy. Still chasing each other away. I will miss them when they head south for the winter, and as fast as the summer is going, that won't be long. We have a bird house on a tree by our garden that has been there for quite a few years. This summer a chickadee made a nest in it. That was neat.
July 28 10:57 am
Temp is 84, in the shade. It's a another warm one folks. Tv guy says to expect more of the same, and even warmer through Monday. Doesn't anyone know that we need a break for at least a day and night from this heat? We are thinking very strongly about dsl. I am almost sure we are going to go for it. Have some paper work to fill out first. Garden is growing and we have been eating zucchini and a few cukes so far. Mike says that we have one cherry tomato almost ready to eat. We don't know what to think about the green peppers. We have 3 or 4 peppers and it looks like that is all. I wonder if the blossoms froze when we had all the cold weather earlier? I am not a gardener, so don't laugh if you are one, and it sounds like I don't know what I am talking about. Because I probably don't!!!
July 26 7:51 pm
Temp is 69. But it feels a lot warmer than that. Wow, I haven't been here for a couple days. Time sure flies when you keep your self busy. It rained last night, but I couldn't tell you how much. Suppose to rain on and off all day today to I guess. Chet popped in last night about 11 pm for the night. So I stayed up until 2 am visiting with him. Then I got up at 7, so that is only five hours sleep for this old body. I am not used to that. I don't know what fixed the camera the other day. When I got home from Newberry I checked it and it was working. It must just have took it awhile for it to reset. Since it rained last night, I am surprised we are able to get online this morning, since NO one has come to fix the water problem from direcway, or even called to say they were coming. Joe and Ralphie stopped in yesterday, but I was busy in the office and Ralphie was in the van, so I didn't get to see her up close, and thank her for watching the web cam pictures each day. :)
July 24 7:58
Don't know what has gotten into the camera, I've tried resetting it a couple times, but nothing happened so far. I will keep trying .............
July 24 7:27 am
Temp is 61. Good morning everyone. It is a cool morning, and I am loving it. It rained this morning earlier. Tv guy says we have a risk for severe weather today. I need to go shopping for some things I need that is on my list. So I will probably be going to Soo or Newberry to get them today. First I have to clean rooms, then it will depend on what time I get done as to where I will be going. Lucky Randy and his wife stopped in yesterday to say hi.
July 22 3:28 pm
Temp is 83. A little breeze outside. Last night it got to around 60 and someone in the rooms turned on the furnace!!!!!!! I have been waiting for it to cool down, and it felt sooo good to me. I just couldn't believe it. You know you're a yooper if formal wear is a flannel shirt, blue jeans and a baseball cap............
July 21 1:23 pm
Temp is 77. It is 72 here in the house. What a welcome change from the last few days. It has been so hot!! Chet is back to juggling again. Off his crutches, and doing well. Someone from Wisconsin hit and killed a moose on Wednesday night. I understand the people are ok. I saw the car, and it is in pretty bad shape. Talked to Scott, from Cabin Cam the other day and he says dsl is the way for us to go. So we will be thinking about it.
July 19 7:35 am
Temp is 61. What a pain the last few days has been. The power went out again Monday afternoon for about four hours this time. Then yesterday we couldn't get on line again all day. Remember back in June when the same thing happened. We had water (rain/moisture) in the feedhorn? The "guy" came out and took the cover off of it with his pocket knife, drained out the water and sealed it up again, to the tune of $125.00! Well it hasn't rain here for a month, until the other day, so guess what? Water/rain/moisture was in the feedhorn again. So I was on the phone with direcway for probably a total of almost two hours yesterday, mostly listening to their recorded music. Finally got it straightened out after explaining it to three different people, and the "guy" is suppose to call in 3 to 5 days and tell us when he will be here to replace the feedhorn like he was suppose to do in the first place. I made it clear to them that I was not paying for it this time. DSL is now available in Paradise. Before we didn't have a choice, but now we do, eventho our kids tell us that our dish is better for us.
July 17 11:42 am
Temp is 89. We lost our power yesterday morning at about 6 am, and it came back on at 1:16am. So we were without power for 19 hours and 16 minutes. When the power goes out in Paradise, you have no water, unless you have a generator, so cleaning rooms yesterday did not happen. I did go in and make the beds, empty the garbage, but that was about all that I could do. I had 4 rooms reserved, so I sent them over to Newberry. The ice cream was starting to get soft in the freezer last night. I haven't checked it out yet today, probably full of little ice crystals. There was a powerful storm all around us, but we didn't get any wind damage around here. It did thunder and lightening and rained about 1/2 an inch. So when the power came on, I got up and did the dishes, because I was afraid that it might go out again. We all got our showers in, so I stayed up until about 3am. Woke up at 6:30 this morning, because I have tons of laundry to do, and lots of other stuff. I have a canner full of herring going right now. That pretty much confines me to the kitchen for a couple hours. I can see the pressure on the canner from here, so figured I'd get this done, before everyone wondered what happened to me.
July 15 6:45 am
Temp is 64. Surprise, I never usually get on here this early for comments. I will be busy today because I have lots of cleaning to do, then I have to take my grandchildren to meet their mother. And it is suppose to be 90 again. So I will be late getting everything done, but it will get done. My husband and son are off herring fishing this morning. They go over by Detour, and fish in Canadian waters, so they won't be back until late tonight. We did get some much needed rain last night. Not to much, but it poured for a few minutes, then just rained some. Maybe a total of an hour. You know you're a yooper if you know that Ontonogan isn't a geometry term...........
July 13 2:44 pm
Temp is 89. HOT HOT HOT !!! Chet e-mailed his dad last night and said he walked quite a bit yesterday without the crutches. So that is a good thing. He is getting better. Now maybe he can get back to juggling soon. I walked up and checked out the garden this morning, (haven't been up there in a couple days) and we have small tomatoes on the vines and the zucchini is doing pretty good also. I saw some really small ones on the vines, and lots of blossoms. Hubby takes good care of it and keeps it watered. You know you're a yooper if you don't have a coughing fit from one sip of Vernors........
July 12 7:45 pm
Temp is 74. Warm day, with no rain. Tv guy says HOT for the next few days. Just what we do not need. You know you're a yooper if the snow on your roof in August weighs more than you do............(our roof would surely cave in, but the snow would be nice) :)
July 10 4:35 pm
Temp is 74. Nice day. Grass in yard is getting browner and browner.........
July 9 9:30 pm
Temp is 57. It was 87 this morning. Only a few rain drops. Daughter went home and left my grandkids for a week, so if I miss a day that is why. I am enjoying them. You know you're a yooper if you know the dollar value of a grocery bag filled with empty pop cans................
July 8 4:46 pm
Temp is 78. It has cooled down some. It is very windy, and was just starting to rain when I was out a few minutes ago. Just been catching up on a few things today. Think I'll sit for awhile and either watch tv or read. (sleep) I usually end up falling asleep when I do either one. Just looked outside, and it has stopped sprinkling. I did see a car go by with it's wipers on, so maybe that is a good sign. It is probably pouring down the road. We sure could use a good slow soaking rain for the grass and garden. I am starting to get worried about the blueberries. There won't be any if it doesn't rain. There is a fire in Sault St. Marie at this time. A big junk yard is on fire. Several tanker trucks were called in from around the area. You know you're a yooper if you know how to play euchre...........(I don't, I'm not a card player)
July 7 8:41 pm
Temp is 75. I liked it better when it was 67. Too hot for me! I went over to Newberry today and it was 88 when we were there. Chet left this evening and went back home. He said the next time I see him, he will be walking all on his own. I hope so. My grandkids are coming to visit for a week. It will be nice to see them. You know you're a yooper if your fishing shanty is better than your house.............
July 6 7:08 pm
Temp is 67. A nice day. Well Chet is here, and seems to be doing pretty good. Still has to use the crutches, but can put some weight on his yukie knee. We went outside today and enjoyed the sun for awhile. He will be very glad when he can stand and walk again so he can get back to work. He doesn't like this no income stuff. Had some things he wanted to get this summer , but will have to put them on hold now until next year. It will take all his August income plus more to pay for his college this fall. But it could have been worse I guess. You know you're a yooper if you have to go to Florida to get a tan in august.................
July 5 8:24 pm
Temp is 64. Well the fourth is over for another year. Paradise had beautiful fireworks. I was able to watch them right from my sidewalk by my door. It was a nice day today. Chet came in awhile ago to visit for a couple days. You know you're a yooper if you have more fishing poles than teeth..............
July 4 7:35 am
Temp is 57. HAPPY FOURTH OF JULY!!!!!!!!!!!!!
July 3 3:34 pm
Temp is 90. It is hot folks. No rain, but tv guy says rain late this afternoon, but I'll have to see it before I believe it. It rains all around, but not here. I just thought I would take a break from the laundry and write a few comments. Chet called me today and said he saw himself juggling on a tv commercial on our tv 9 and 10. Now I will have to watch for it. He will be coming to visit sometime this week. Anxious to get back juggling and hating the crutches! You know you're a yooper if your 4th of July family picnic was moved indoors due to frost...........
July 2 5:26 pm
Temp is 69. Thought I'd sneak in a few words before the dryer beckons me to get the towels out and put more in. All and all it has been a nice day. It seems like the traffic is heavy for awhile, then real quiet, then heavy again. Don't know what that is all about. Maybe it is just me!!!! Does anyone think so? Don't answer that. You know you're a yooper if your idea of creative landscaping is putting an extra pair of pink flamingos next to your blue spruce..........
July 1 9:59 pm
Temp is 69. We had a little rain today, but not much. We are getting a little busier in the motel now, so I have a little more work to do, so sometimes I might not make it on here. I planted a flat of flowers today that will come up next year. My son, Ralph watered them for me, now they can just grow away. It was windy last night, so we had to tie up the tomato plants this morning. I say we, but actually I just handed the guys the sticks. Our green peppers have flowers on them now, so I guess we will have peppers. You know you're a yooper if you know WHY Paradise is colder than Hell...............
June 30 7:10 pm
Temp is 71. I was busy yesterday and I never made it on here. Thanks to C and D in Indiana. I can't believe tomorrow is the first of July already. Where did June go? I worked on laundry today and I think I am all caught up again. I also took some zucchini out of the freezer and made some zucchini bread. Thought I'd better get it used up, before it is growing in the garden again. I've heard horror stories about zucchini, but we never seem to have that problem. We love it and never get tired of it. I had someone stop by and give me 14 ripe blueberries the other day! My favorite thing to do when I can find them is pick blueberries. Last year my hubby was laughing at me when I was searching on line for recipes using zucchini and blueberries. Everyone had a good laugh when I found zucchini blueberry bread!!! But it was quite good. You know you're a yooper if you drink "pop" and bake with "soda".............
June 28 4:30 pm
Temp is 72. Had a few drops of rain today. I was at the Soo, but I don't think it rained here very much. It did pour over by Raco tho. Not much to comment on today. It seemed like there was a lot of traffic in town when I went to the post office. Has been pretty quiet around town. Maybe it will get busier in July. I hope so. You know you're a yooper if the trees in your backyard have spigots...................
June 27 3:48 pm
Temp is 73. It was sunny until a few minutes ago, now it looks like rain. It did rain this morning, but not much. It rains so very little, then the sun comes out hot and dries it all up again. So it doesn't do any good. I talked to Chet today. He was in to see the doctor yesterday, and he is coming along ok. He is still on crutches for a few weeks, and had to cancel his juggling jobs he had set up for the holiday weekend. We were discussing on what a small accident can do to up set one's life. He may be back juggling the first of August, so he has lost most of his summer income. He is not a happy juggler! If you saw a fat lady cutting the grass earlier, it was me. Wasn't much grass, but the weeds were high. Why does the grass go dormant, but the weeds grow beautifully???? You know you're a yooper if you consider pickled bologna, saltines, and Vernors a good lunch............
June 26 4:37 pm
Temp is 73. Not much to comment about today. Got an e-mail from our daughter that lives in Ishpeming, and she said it was 23 there this morning. Not to good for her garden. However she did get water going on it, and saved it. What's up with this weather anyway? Tv guy said at noon that temps are going to be below normal for the next week. We still need rain. The grass is crunchy in some spots. You know you're a yooper if you know that "Red, White and Blue" is a beer...............
June 25 6:23 pm
Temp is 66. I just finished cleaning strawberries and putting them in the freezer for winter. They taste really good in the winter when it is snowing outside. :) Now tomorrow I have to make some rhubarb jam for winter. I made some already, but it won't be enough. I usually do a lot of canning in the summer so we can enjoy it in the winter. I don't know if it is any cheaper, but I do know it tastes better and is better for you. This year I am going to try some pickled beets if they grow good in the garden, and I'm sure they will. You know you're a yooper if you know "the big mac" is something you can drive across............
June 24 10:21 pm
Temp is 60. Furnace is running. Not for us, but for our guests. We like it cool. Flowers are growing quite well, garden is growing and all's well in Paradise! Until tomorrow, you know you're a yooper if you define summer as three months of bad sledding............
June 23 5:31 pm
Temp is 66. Sunny, but cool. You know you're a yooper if your definition of a small town is one that doesn't have a lake..........
June 22 9:14 am
Temp is 66. Sunny. HAPPY BIRTHDAY CHET!!!!!!!!!!! Yes, today is Chet's birthday. He is still under Doctor's care with his knee, and not putting any weight on it, so he has been watching a lot of tv this summer. Anyone who knows him, knows this is not a good time for him. He is an active person always on the go and doing something. I talked to him yesterday and he says he can now bend his knee some. Goes back to the doctor on Monday, and we will go from there. Hopefully he can get back to juggling. You know you're a yooper if your hot tub facility was once a pig and goat barn...................
June 21 5:05 pm
Temp is 73. It was cloudy off and on today with no rain. You know you're a yooper if you give directions to your house by way of its vicinity to the local lakes......................
June 19 7:44 pm
Temp is 59. Yes 59, your eyes are not playing tricks, and I did type it right. 59!!! What a difference a couple days makes, but give me the 59 any day over the 100. Had to turn the furnace back on. We have been getting a very small shower it seems like each day, but it is only a few sprinkles. Not enough to wet the vehicles even. You know you're a yooper if you covet your empties.........
June 18 10:02 am
Temp is 76. HAPPY FATHERS DAY!!!!!! It was a cool, 68 this morning at 7 am with a breeze. The breeze is now gone, and it is getting warmer. It is cloudy.
June 17 8:07 pm
Temp is 79. Still 85 in here. It is windy outside and really not to bad. Tv guy says rain tonight and tomorrow morning. I hope so, we need rain badly. Some of the grass crunches when you walk on it.
June 17 1:12 pm
Temp is 100 in the shade!!!!!!!!!!!! It is a cool 85 in here in front of the fan. :) I will try and get back on here this evening, if I am not cooked by then.
June 15 7:58 pm
Temp is 75. I've had a busy day today. My mother helped me plant two flats of flowers, and I did all the laundry, baked two loaves of bread, got two loaves of french bread ready to go in the oven. Have some spice n' slice summer sausage mixed up to bake. I really want to make a blueberry pound cake that I just got the recipe from the Sunday paper. Don't know if I will get that far tonight or not. I am trying to get all this done, before Saturday, because it is suppose to be HOT and HUMID then. I don't move around very fast when it is so hot. Actually it puts me to sleep. I will put the bread I am baking in the freezer, so I won't have to bake again until it cools down. You know you're a yooper if you know that a "party store" is actually a place to buy beer and chips instead of balloons and party favors.............
June 14 9:54 pm
Temp is 57. I went to Newberry this afternoon and it was 75 over there. Tv guy says 80's and 90's for the weekend. That is way to hot for me. You know you're a yooper if you can quote Hoyle on Euchre...............
June 13 7:41 pm
Temp is 62. Not much to comment about today. Just did the things that had to be done, and cleaned the carpets in a couple of the rooms. You know you're a yooper if you know that "Sault" rhymes with "Boo".......
June 12 6:58 pm
Temp is 60, with a little breeze. The direcway repair man was here today and hopefully got us all fixed up. Opened the part that had the water in it, drained it out and resealed it up. Then he replaced our modem. We have been having problems having to reset it sometimes up to three times a day. He said the water thing was a common problem. My opinion is that if they knew it was a problem, they should have went around and resealed them before people had to go a week without internet. And the monthly fee for it is not cheap. Many thanks to the people that have e-mailed me asking about Chet. He is a fine young man. (and not just because he is my son). :) He went to the dr. today and had the bandages removed and stitches taken out. I understand he has lots of cartilage missing from his knee. Doctor told him to do some therapy for two weeks, then he will check it again. If he doesn't think it is doing well, he may have to go downstate and have cartilage put in it. He is kind of upset because he is missing work, and this is how he earns money for college in the fall. Hopefully he will be improving when he goes back in two weeks, and can get on with the juggling. We told him he can just take one day at a time, and hope for the best. You know you're a yooper if you know someone who has a boat, snowmobile, cabin and outhouse.............
June 11 5:46 pm
Temp is 61 and windy. I thought I was going to get on here yesterday, but after I got the comments done, I couldn't post them, so will try again now, as the problem seems to have resolved it's self. A repair man is going to be here tomorrow between 2 and 3 to fix the problem. I finally got all the weeds pulled out of the flowers at the end of the motel. Was going to have hubby till it up for me, but my roses are in bud and I didn't want to disturb them, so I just did it all by hand. We have the garden all planted now, if it ever warms up, maybe it will grow. It was 38 38 39 for temps for the last 3 mornings. You know you're a yooper if you have ever gotten frostbitten and sunburned in the same week..............
June 10 12:03 pm
Temp is 62, cold and windy. First of all, our direcway dish that we have for the internet, has not been working. It rained the other night, and water got in a little plastic thing. The sun must be drying up the rain/moisture in it, so it came back online. We have a call in to direcway and they said we will get a call from a technician in 2 to 5 days, setting up an appointment to come fix it. No call yet, so if we are gone again, that is the reason. Glad I got to get on here and let everyone know what is going on. Chet had his operation and was in surgery for 2 hours and 45 minutes. They were able to use the scope, but he is bandaged up pretty good with crutches and he can't bend his knee yet. He will be going back to the doctor on Monday to have the bandages changed. I talked to him this morning and he is getting tired of laying in bed watching tv. I understand the bone chips were under his kneecap.
June 6 9:33 pm
Temp is 64. It was a nice day today. Had a few rain drops, but that was it. We planted some of our garden today. Well I was the helper and advice giver.............): Tv guy says it is suppose to rain tonight and showers tomorrow. That would be nice. I may not be on here tomorrow, because we will be in Petoskey at Northern Michigan Hospital with Chet. I think I said he fell while juggling a few weeks ago. Well his knee never fully recovered, so tomorrow he will be in surgery for it. He has a bone chip in it. Hopefully they can fix it with the scope, if not he will be on crutches for 6 weeks. Not good when you are a juggler and depend on the income. If we get back early and I am not to tired, I will let everyone know how it goes. You know you're a yooper if you've ever eaten wintergreen berries................(they are quite good)
June 5 4:53 pm
Temp is 71. A nice day. You know you're a yooper if you answer the question "How many UP'ers does it take to change a light bulb?" with "None, we don't have electricity".........
June 4 5:14 pm
Temp is 73. It is breezy out now. Just sitting here, not doing anything special, watching the hummers.
June 3 8:05 pm
Temp is 64. It was 50 this morning at 7 am. There is a breeze, so no bugs out tonight. Finished the flower planting today. The hummingbirds are at the feeder most of the day. I usually make my own nectar, and it is clear, but the other day I ran across some that came with my feeder and thought I would get it used up. So I mixed it up and put it out and they only came a couple times, then they never came back for a couple days. The stuff from the store was red colored. So I threw it out and made some of the clear stuff and put it back out and with in a half hour they were back. I wonder what they didn't like about it? You know you're a yooper when your mosquito repellent doubles as your aftershave..............
June 2 3:38 pm
Temp is 78. Beautiful day in Paradise. Went and got my impatient plants for the pots on the sidewalk, and the wave petunia's for another pot. Got three pots planted so far. It was customer appreciation day today at the credit union across the road. They had free hot dogs on the grill. I will have to go back to the greenhouse later and get some flowers for the bed at the end of the motel toward the road. I have been trying to plant flowers in there that comes up every year, but this year a lot of them didn't come up, so I decided to have my hubby till it up and hopefully loosen the ground, and just put annuals in there each year. Every winter when we plow snow, it is plowed up against the motel there, and on top of the flower bed. It is close to the road and the salt from the road gets plowed there too. So I think the salt kills the flowers. You know you're a yooper if your grandmother has "ammo" on her Christmas list.................
June 1 5:52 pm
Temp is 71. I didn't make it on here yesterday. I get busy and forget about it, then someone else gets on the computer, and I don't want to kick them off, then it gets too late and I get tired. Not much to comment about now days. Can't believe it is June already. There is a little breeze today, so the bugs aren't to bad. They were out yesterday tho. We had a tree taken out a week or so ago, and we were planting grass and the mosquitoes were feasting on us. Tomorrow I have to go to Newberry, so I will pick up the flowers for the flower pots I have sitting on the sidewalk. Hopefully there won't be any skeeters out so I can plant them. You know you're a yooper if your boat hasn't left the driveway in 15 years.........(that isn't true around here)
May 30 10:39 pm
Temp is 57. I just had to get on here and let everyone know what a difference a day makes temp wise in the UP. Yesterday when it was 97, we were complaining, and people were looking for air-conditioning , and right now the furnace is running!! We had thunder, lightening and heavy rain this afternoon. Then it cleared up and was nice out. (except for the mosquitoes). They were out in full force today. As much as I hate bug spray, I had to put some on my arms so I could go outside this evening.
May 30 8:23 am
Temp is 70. I didn't make it back on here yesterday, it was so hot, I just did what I had to do. It was 97 here yesterday afternoon, and hot all night long. So 70 feels pretty good this morning, even tho it is still early. You know you're a yooper if you burn your yard rather than mow it...............

Temp is 75. Happy Memorial Day everyone!! Just checking out the camera to see if it is doing it's job and thought I'd let everyone know the temp. I'll try and get back on here later this afternoon or evening. Nancy

Temp is 74. Just had a guest come in from downstate, and he said it is really hot down there. So far it is nice here, as a matter of fact I have had the oven on for a couple hours today baking up some goodies. It rained here in the night last night, and this morning. It stopped about 10:30 am and was cloudy for a bit, but now it is sunny. Hope everyone is enjoying the holiday weekend. You know you're a yooper if you offer to give someone the shirt off your back and they don't want it...............
May 27 6:02 pm
Temp is 64. A real nice day. I went to some of the community yard sales and bought a couple things I just couldn't live without. :) You know you're a yooper if you keep a can of Raid on the kitchen table.................
May 26 2:14 pm
Temp is 81. Beautiful day!!!! If anyone saw a fat lady in a red shirt cutting grass earlier, that was me. Glad I did it before it got so hot. You know you're a yooper if you can entertain yourself for more than an hour with a fly swatter..................
May 25 3:14 pm
Temp is 72. Nice day. I cut some grass, probably cut more tomorrow. Went to Hulbert to the cemetery yesterday and placed flowers on the family graves. Grandma's and grandpa's are there as well as other relatives. Don't for get the community yard sales this weekend, and the fire department is having a pig roast on Saturday starting at 4pm. Pigs, chicken, hot dogs, salad and desserts are on the menu. So you can come to town, shop and have your evening meal!!! You know you're a yooper if you've used a rag for a gas cap......................

Temp is 65. It is sunny, and generally a nice day. Had an appointment over in the Soo yesterday, and it was late when I got home, and I was tired, so I skipped the comments. Did everyone miss my words of wisdom? :) To day I have been taking advantage of the sunshine and doing some laundry and hanging it outside. Catching up on some motel laundry , and that goes in the dryer, so with hanging our personal clothes outside, I can get it all done faster. Talked to both my daughter and son today. Chet said he twisted his knee the other day during a show, so he has it elevated with ice packs on it. Daughter said it was 17 degrees there the other morning. She lives in Ishpeming, that's near Marquette. Tv guy says no more frost for us, but time will tell. I have been doing a few jobs around the house that need to be done. I don't think I will ever get it as clean as I want it to be, but who knows, maybe I will. You know you're a yooper if you think a quarter horse is that ride in front of K-Mart...................
May21 8:52 pm
Temp is 38. Very windy today. The power was out for about 4 hours this morning. It was 36 this morning. It was bitter cold out today. There were five freighters anchored out in the bay waiting for the wind to calm down, and that was about five o'clock this afternoon. It is still pretty windy, so they are probably still there. At least the power went out when it was getting light, usually it goes out at night when it is dark, and you can't do anything. We have a gas stove, so I was able to heat some water for my morning cup of postum. I haven't drank coffee for a couple years now. No Caffeine, No Stress, not even decaf coffee, and no caffeine pop too. Now I don't have a problem with the no caffeine thing, but the stress part I can't do much about........ it just happens. (Bob, this is for you) You know you're a yooper when you have to go to the vagabond to take a shower.............
May 20 6:43 pm
Temp is 45. Tv guy says rain and snow showers after midnight. It is raining now. We got about 1.9 inches of rain last week. Just checked the rain gauge today. Rhubarb is growing in the garden, first year I won't have to buy any from the store. It makes good jam, strawberry /rhubarb pies, and rhubarb crunch. I also chop some up and throw it in the freezer for winter. Chet is quite fond of strawberry/rhubarb pie. My sweet peas and morning glorys are coming up. They have been in the ground for along time. I don't blame them for not wanting to pop up when it is so cold. What am I going to complain about when it warms up outside and stops being windy? I am sure I will think of something. (just ask my husband) :) You know you're a yooper when you know how many bales of hay your car will hold..............
May 19 6:42 pm
Temp is 53. Windy-windy-windy! It has been windy for so long. Tv guy says a warm up starting Monday. Doesn't have to get too warm, just about 70 will do. The Paradise Chamber of Commerce is sponsoring the second annual community yard sale on May 27 and 28. So if any of you are up for the weekend, you might want to check them out. There are always some "goodies" out there that you can find. You know you're a yooper if you've used a toilet brush for a back scratcher (yuk)............
May 18 7:57 pm
Temp is 47. Rain most of the day and wind. It has stopped raining now, but it is still windy. We sure have had a lot of wind this spring. You know you're a yooper if you think a subdivision is part of a math problem............
May 17 3:54 pm
Temp is 61. It is getting cloudy out now. Tv guy says rain late this afternoon. I did feel a few drops before. Did laundry and a few other things that I wanted to get done today. As long as the wind is blowing, the bugs are gone. You know you 're a yooper if you have used your ironing board as a buffet table...............
May 16 7:16 pm
Temp is 60, and it is windy. Went over to Newberry today to pick up a few things. I raked a little when I got home, that's about it for my day today. It was nice to see Chet and Bethany last night. Bethany is his girlfriend. He will be juggling in Mackinaw city this summer, and of course he wouldn't miss the Wild Blueberry Festival in Paradise. Talked to Scott, from Cabin Cam last night for a bit. I love it outside, so I am outside most of the time. Until the bugs are out and I can't stand it out there, then I will be inside every day. You know you're a yooper when you take your dog for a walk and you both use the same tree...........................
May 15 2:54 pm
Temp is 62 and it is raining. Once it started to rain, it seems like it doesn't know when to stop. But rain is good. College is out for the summer and Chet is coming here this afternoon with a load of his "stuff" to store for the summer. He will be a troll for the summer also. I am baking pies again , but I am not leaving the yard this time. :) So we are having apple pie , potatoe salad and beer can chicken for supper tonight. Now that sounds like a real yooper meal to me! I just know that after the initial preparation, it is a pretty easy meal. My peony plants that were brought to me are growing just fine. I planted a package of lupine seeds the year before last and only one plant came up and grew. Last year it had flowers. Now this year I noticed I have little lupine plants coming up in a few places. It must have seeded it's self last fall. I had one other one that I had bought, but that never made it this year. Last year I started some in little seed containers, then it got so hot and dry and I never took very good care of them, so I took them all out one day and planted them in the ground and forgot about them. Now I see there is about 14 plants coming up there. I hope they have flo
